National League Game Summary - Cincinnati at Florida

Final Score: Cincinnati 11 - Florida 3

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Jay Bruce went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three batted in as the Cincinnati Reds walloped the Florida Marlins in an 11-3 decision to begin a four-game series.

"I just try to stay with a consistent approach," Bruce said. I'm trying not to change anything. A lot of people have told me the game's just the same. It's just bigger stands, better uniforms, superstars, stuff like that."

Starter Johnny Cueto (5-5) earned his third straight victory and first road win of his career. He had been 0-4 with a 7.99 earned run average away from Great American Ball Park coming into the game, but the young righty allowed just three runs on eight hits and three walks, while fanning eight in six innings.

"[Cueto's] learning from his bad experiences," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "The guy is full of determination and wants it real badly. He's learning to keep his emotions in check."

Despite the offensive firepower, the Reds failed to hit a home run, including Ken Griffey Jr., who is still searching for the 600th home run of his illustrious career. Griffey went 2-for-3 in the game with two walks and a run scored.

Jerry Hairston Jr. and Brandon Phillips each tallied two RBI for the Reds, who had lost three of their previous four.

Florida starter Andrew Miller (4-5) started strong but unraveled in his 3 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Doug Waechter allowed four runs in his 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Jorge Cantu connected on two solo home runs during a 3-for-5 effort at the plate for the Marlins, who have dropped five of six overall and seven in a row to Cincinnati.

The Marlins loaded the bases with one out in the second but only plated a run on Miller's groundout to short.

Miller looked sharp in the first two frames with four strikeouts before the wheels began falling off in the third. Phillips smacked a two-out, two-run single to center to put Cincinnati ahead, 2-1 before Cantu's leadoff homer in the home half tied things up.

"I felt like I had good stuff," Miller said. "I was obviously not throwing enough strikes and executing pitches when I had to. A team like that, they're going to knock you around when I throw the ball like that."

The Reds took the lead for good in the fourth as Miller was pulled following an RBI single by Hairston. Waechter came on in relief with the bases loaded and allowed a run on Bruce's opposite field single.

Consecutive two-out, run-scoring hits from Cueto and Hairston sparked a for- run fifth, with Bruce capping the inning on a two-run single to center.

Cantu slammed his 10th home run of the season with no one on in the fifth. Later in the frame, the Marlins had a chance to cut further into the 8-3 lead with the bases loaded, but Cueto fanned Matt Treanor for the final out.

A three-run seventh ended any hope for a Marlins' comeback. With the bases loaded, Adam Dunn worked a walk to force in a run, while Joey Votto and pinch- hitter Andy Phillips plated a runner to give the Reds a commanding eight-run cushion.
