Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Derek Lowe allowed one run over eight solid innings, and Matt Kemp went 3-for-5 with a home run for Los Angeles, which pounded the struggling Colorado Rockies, 8-2, to open a three-game set.
Lowe (3-5) surrendered the one run on five hits and a walk, and struck out three, earning his first win in his past eight starts. He was supported by an offense that pounded out 11 hits and was led by Kemp, who added a pair of doubles to his homer.
James Loney went 2-for-3 and batted in a run, while Jeff Kent and Andre Ethier also homered for Los Angeles, which snapped a two-game slide and earned just its second win in its past eight games.
"We were more aggressive tonight," Kemp said. "Derek pitched a good game and we were able to get our bats going. We all came through with big hits tonight."
Meanwhile, the Rockies had their losing streak extended to eight games as starter Greg Reynolds (0-3) gave up six runs -- four earned -- on seven hits in five innings of work.
"We weren't able to establish anything on the mound early," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. "What Greg has to learn is he has to learn how to adjust."
Todd Helton collected three hits, while Garrett Atkins and Yorvit Torrealba each had an RBI for Colorado.
The Rockies got on the scoreboard first when Atkins singled in Ryan Spilborghs in the first frame -- but the 1-0 lead soon disappeared as the Dodgers progressively increased their own advantage.
Kemp doubled in the home half of the first, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on an Ethier ground out. Kent followed with a solo homer to left to put Los Angeles in front, 2-1.
Danny Ardoin worked a one-out walk in the second and went to third as Atkins made a throwing error on Chin-Lung Hu's batted ball. Atkins then scored on a sacrifice bunt from Lowe, and Hu came home on a Juan Pierre single for a 4-1 Dodgers edge.
Ethier's lead-off homer in the third gave LA a four-run edge, and Loney's RBI single in the fifth tacked on another run.
In the seventh, the Dodgers virtually put the game away, as Kemp hit a lead- off homer. Then, Loney singled with two outs, went to second on a wild pitch from Jorge De La Rosa, and scored when Ardoin singled to right for an 8-1 lead.
Helton singled to begin the ninth and later scored on Torrealba's double, but Scott Proctor struck out Omar Quintanilla to end the game.
