American League Game Summary - New York at Minnesota

Final Score: NY Yankees 1 - Minnesota 5

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Michael Cuddyer had three hits and drove in three runs as the Minnesota Twins beat the New York Yankees, 5-1, in the third of a four-game set.

Justin Morneau had two hits and scored twice while Mike Redmond also scored twice for the Twins, who have won four of their last six games.

"I know I'm a big part of it," said Cuddyer. "I was struggling the past couple of weeks but today I feel like I contributed and it is a good feeling."

Nick Blackburn started on the mound and gave up one run on five hits. He left with one out in the fifth as he was hit in the face with a line drive off the bat of Bobby Abreu. He was taken off the field with a bloody nose and X-rays taken later turned up negative. Brian Bass (2-1) got the win for pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

"I'm gonna be sore for the next couple of days, that's for sure," said Blackburn. "I don't know if I was a little messed up, but I knew I had to stand back up."

Derek Jeter hit a solo home run while Darrell Rasner (3-2) got the loss for giving up four runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings for the Yankees, who had won three straight coming into the contest.

"We didn't have it today," said Yankees outfielder Johnny Damon. "Sometimes things come in bunches but today they didn't. It happens."

The Twins jumped on the board in the first inning. With one out, Alexi Casilla hit a single and Redmond followed with a double to left. After Morneau grounded out to the pitcher, Cuddyer ripped a single to center to bring home both runners for a 2-0 lead.

Minnesota plated another run in the fourth on Mike Lamb's sacrifice fly that scored Morneau for a 3-0 advantage.

The Yankees got on the board in the fifth on a solo home run from Jeter to make it a 3-1 contest.

However, the Yankees bats went cold after that as the team hit into double plays in the sixth and seventh innings.

In the sixth, Morneau led off with a triple to center and was able to cross the plate on Melky Cabrera's errant throw on the play.

In the seventh, the Twins scored another run as Redmond drew a one-out walk and later came around on Cuddyer's triple to right for a 5-1 lead.

New York was retired in order in the eighth and Joe Nathan was able to get around a two-out single to close out the game.
