Final Score: Oakland 1 - Texas 3

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Kevin Millwood pitched six innings of one-run ball as the Texas Rangers downed the Oakland Athletics, 3-1, in the opener of a three-game set.

Millwood (3-3) gave up five hits with no walks and five strikeouts for the Rangers, who have won six of their last nine games. Josh Hamilton had two hits and scored twice while Brandon Boggs went 2-for-3 with three RBI

Carlos Gonzalez, making his MLB debut, had a pair of doubles and drove in the lone run for the Athletics, who have dropped three straight. Justin Duchscherer (4-4) got the loss as he gave up two runs on six hits in six innings of work.

With the score tied, the Rangers grabbed the lead in the sixth. Hamilton led off with a double and later moved to third on a flyout from Gerald Laird. Boggs then lofted a sacrifice fly to left that scored Hamilton for a 2-1 lead.

Eddie Guardado worked a perfect seventh and Keith Foulke worked around a two- out single in the eighth.

Texas padded its lead in the eighth as Hamilton led off with a single and later scored on a double from Boggs for a 3-1 lead.

C.J. Wilson gave up a leadoff single in the ninth, but struck out Emil Brown and got Mark Ellis to hit into a double-play to pick up his 11th save of the season.

Texas grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Michael Young led off with a single and moved to second on a Hamilton ground out. After David Murphy struck out, Laird walked and Boggs belted a double to center to plate Young.

Oakland got on the board in the fifth inning. Ellis led off with a double and, after Daric Barton flied out, crossed the plate on Gonzalez's double to right.
