Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Russell Martin went 4-for-4, homered, drove in three runs and scored three runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers used a five-run eighth inning to top the New York Mets, 9-5, in the second of a four-game series at Shea Stadium.
James Loney went 2-for-4, knocked in a run and scored twice for the Dodgers, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Blake DeWitt added a pair of hits and knocked in a run, while Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Jeff Kent knocked in a run apiece.
"A lot of good at-bats, two-strike base hits are hugely important, and that's what we hadn't been doing," said Dodgers manager Joe Torre. "We've gotten behind in counts and we've gone quietly, but that inning was a good inning, and hopefully we can do something on top of that."
Chan Ho Park (2-1) earned the win after allowing a run on two hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings in relief of Clayton Kershaw, who surrendered four runs on five hits over 3 2/3 frames in his second major league start.
"He's been tremendous for us this year. I think his velocity's up a little bit from the past few years, and he's throwing strikes with all his pitches.
Jose Reyes knocked in a run and scored two for the Mets, who had a three-game win streak ended. Luis Castillo added a two-run home run and walked twice before leaving with a left hip flexor strain in the top of the seventh.
Aaron Heilman (0-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits without recording an out in the eighth. John Maine was touched for four runs on five hits in six innings -- striking out six -- and didn't factor in the decision.
Juan Pierre singled off Pedro Feliciano to start the eighth, and Heilman came out of the bullpen but could not preserve the lead, as Kemp lined an RBI double to right-center that barely evaded a diving Fernando Tatis. Kent then punched a single into right, allowing Kemp to sprint home for a 6-5 L.A. lead.
"I've got to do a better job out there, keep the ball down and get them to hit it at people," Heilman said."
Loney grounded a single into right that sent pinch-runner Chin-Lung Hu to third, then Martin squibbed an RBI single through the drawn-in infield. Scott Schoenweis came on in relief, but uncorked a wild pitch that brought in Loney. Ethier was called out on strikes, but DeWitt slashed an RBI single to center before being retired in a rundown between first and second. Luis Maza grounded out to end the inning, but the Dodgers had turned a one-run deficit into a 9-5 lead.
"Everybody did their part in that inning," Martin said. "Making guys go first- to-third, good situational hitting with guys on third and less than two outs."
Jonathan Broxton worked a perfect eighth, and Takashi Saito kept the Mets off the board in the ninth to finish off the win.
The Dodgers pounced on Maine with two outs in the first, getting RBI doubles from Loney and Martin, followed by an run-scoring single by Ethier.
The Mets immediately countered against Kershaw, as Reyes reached on an infield single and Castillo launched a homer to left. Carlos Beltran's sacrifice fly in the third scored Reyes to tie the game at 3-3.
Martin answered to lead off the top of the fourth, drilling a 3-1 fastball deep into the left field stands.
Singles by Castro, Delgado and Nick Evans loaded the bases with nobody out in the home fourth. Castro was forced out at the plate on Maine's grounder, but Delgado scored the tying run when Reyes grounded into a force out at third.
The Mets rallied in the seventh, as Wright drilled a one-out double to center off Park. Beltran was intentionally walked to try and set up a double play, but Tatis poked a single to right to load the bases. Castro smashed a broken- bat grounder to the mound that deflected off Park's foot and directly to DeWitt at third, but the rookie hesitated and threw to first for the out, allowing Wright to score the go-ahead run.
