American League Game Summary - Chicago at Tampa Bay

Final Score: Chicago WSox 5 - Tampa Bay 1

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - John Danks threw six solid innings, and Paul Konerko went 2-for-4 with a home run, as Chicago opened up a four-game set against Tampa Bay with a 5-1 win over the Rays.

Danks (4-4) gave up just one run on six hits and fanned eight for the White Sox, who have won two in a row and four of five. Matt Thornton, Octavio Dotel and Boone Logan each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

"It's great, I feel proud of them," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said of his team. "They are doing a tremendous job. They have unbelievable talent, they know what they are doing, and they are going in the right direction."

Konerko, Jim Thome, Orlando Cabrera and Carlos Quentin all finished with two hits and a run batted in, while Joe Crede added a solo homer.

"Unbelievable," Cabrera said of Danks' outing. "He kept getting better and better. He kept the ball down and was getting out of jams. He threw the ball really, really well."

Edwin Jackson (3-4) took the loss after allowing four runs on 10 hits in a six-inning start for Tampa Bay, which has dropped two of three.

Akinori Iwamura went 2-for-5, B.J. Upton and Willy Aybar each had a double, but the Rays could only push across one run, which was driven in by Carl Crawford.

"We had opportunities to get the game where we wanted to, but we couldn't get the run in," Rays manager Joe Maddon said.

Chicago got to Jackson in the third inning for a pair of runs. Cabrera hit a lead-off single and went to second on a fielder's choice. Another single, from Quentin, plated Cabrera for the early lead.

Jermaine Dye struck out, but Thome dropped in a opposite-field double to left, just beyond the reach of a sprinting Crawford. It pushed Quentin across the plate and give the White Sox a 2-0 edge.

Crawford, though, got the Rays within one in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single to right, scoring Aybar.

But Tampa Bay's offense went silent from that point on, and Chicago slowly pulled away.

Crede blasted a leadoff homer to left-center field in the sixth inning, on a hanging slider, for a 3-1 Chicago lead. Nick Swisher followed with a double that hit off the wall, not far from where Crede's homer crossed the fence, and later scored on a double from Cabrera.

Konerko tacked on another run in the eighth with a majestic lead-off home run, as he smashed a first-pitch fastball high in the air, off a catwalk attached to the roof of Tropicana Field.

Dotel worked around lead-off double to Upton in the eighth to hold the Rays off the scoreboard, and Logan closed out the game in the ninth.
