National League Game Summary - Florida at New York

Final Score: Florida 6 - NY Mets 7

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Fernando Tatis' two-run double down the left field line in the bottom of the 12th inning capped a dramatic, 7-6 victory for the New York Mets over the NL-East leading Florida Marlins at Shea Stadium.

Tatis finished with three RBI and Endy Chavez hit a game-tying solo home run the bottom of the ninth inning to send the game into extra frames, where Duaner Sanchez (1-0) picked up the win after throwing two innings of relief.

Sanchez allowed the go-ahead run in his second inning on the hill, but the Mets' bullpen was brilliant, allowing just one hit while fanning nine and walking none in six innings. Starter Oliver Perez surrendered four hits but three home runs in his six frames, walking four while striking out seven.

Jose Reyes went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored, while Luis Castillo added a two-run blast for the Mets, who took the rubber match of the three-game set.

The Marlins mustered only five hits, but home runs by Mike Rabelo, Alfredo Amezaga and two by Cody Ross kept the squad in the game. Ross finished with four RBI for Florida, which has dropped back-to-back games following a three- game win streak.

Florida starter Scott Olsen allowed four runs on six hits through five innings in a no decision. Justin Miller (1-2) was credited with the loss after recording just one out in the 12th frame.

After Amezaga put the Marlins ahead by one with a blast off Sanchez in the top of the 12th, Miller allowed a leadoff walk to David Wright in the bottom half.

With Wright running on a full count, Carlos Beltran laced a single to left field to put runners on the corners, and Tatis followed two batters later with a shot to left. The Marlins' relay throw went awry and Beltran sprinted around to score without a throw for the game-winner.

"You got to put those games away and we didn't do it," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

The Marlins were on the brink of closing out the game when closer Kevin Gregg came on in the ninth with a 5-4 lead. Chavez stepped up and smacked his first homer of the season, breaking Gregg's consecutive saves streak at seven games.

"I just tried to recognize what's coming and make sure to put the ball in play," Chavez said. "I know we have very good talent here and we just have to work hard and show it on the field."

The Mets couldn't have started off better with Reyes leading off the home first with a ground-rule double and Castillo launching a 3-1 Olsen offering for his second home run of the season.

Rabelo got one back for the Marlins in the third with a leadoff homer, but Tatis' sacrifice fly to center an inning later kept it a two-run deficit.

Ross and Reyes both led off their respective team's fifth innings with solo blasts, as New York led 4-2 heading to the sixth.

Perez issued a one-out walk to Wes Helms and a single to Dan Uggla before facing Ross. The right fielder, who was homerless until May 1, crushed a line drive to deep left field, giving the Marlins a one-run lead.

The Mets kept it a one-run game thanks to the bullpen, who retired 19 straight batters until Amezaga's blast in extra innings.
