American League Game Summary - Texas at Tampa Bay

Final Score: Texas 12 - Tampa Bay 6

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - Josh Hamilton hit a grand slam and finished with five RBI, as Texas powered past Tampa Bay, 12-6, in the second contest of a three-game set.

Hamilton also doubled, while Brandon Boggs went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI for Texas, which has won two of three and five of seven. Jarrod Saltalamacchia added three hits, including a pair of doubles, for the Rangers.

Vicente Padilla (7-2) took the win after allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings. The Texas starter had a season-high 10 strikeouts, a mark Padilla hadn't reached since July 5, 2006.

Cliff Floyd and Eric Hinske each hit a two-run home run for Tampa Bay, which had a four-game win streak snapped.

Andy Sonnanstine (6-3) took the loss after allowing seven runs -- just two earned -- on 10 hits in five innings of work.

The Rays nearly erased an early 7-0 hole to get within two, but Texas hammered J.P. Howell in the eighth inning, after the Rays' reliever had thrown two scoreless relief innings.

Saltalamacchia smacked a lead-off double and went to third when Ramon Vazquez grounded into a fielder's choice. Ian Kinsler knocked in a run with a single, and a walk to Michael Young loaded the bases with no outs.

Howell tossed a first-pitch fastball to Hamilton, who was well on top of the throw and deposited it in the right-field seats. It was his second grand slam of the season and put the Rangers ahead by a 12-5 margin.

At that point Gary Glover entered, and he was able to shut the Rangers down from there.

The Rays had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom half of the eighth, but only got one run out of the situation -- a sacrifice fly from Jason Bartlett. Kameron Loe worked out of that jam and set Tampa Bay down in order in the ninth to end the game.

Consecutive doubles from Young and Hamilton plated Texas' first run in the first inning, and later in the frame Boggs singled to plate Hamilton for a 2-0 Rangers lead.

Texas put five more runs on the board in the second. With two outs and runners on second and third, Evan Longoria blocked a spinning grounder from Hamilton at third base, but couldn't control the rebound. His late throw allowed Saltalamacchia to score.

Milton Bradley then looped a single to center to drive in Kinsler, and David Murphy followed with another base hit to plate Hamilton. Boggs came through with another big hit -- a double on an 0-1 fastball -- that cleared the bases and pushed the Rangers' lead to 7-0.

Tampa Bay used power to get back in the game. In the home second, Floyd hammered Padilla's first pitch over the right field wall with Longoria on base.

In the fourth, Floyd walked with one out. Dioner Navarro struck out, but Hinske pulled a knee-high slider in the middle of the plate to right field, and it cleared the fence to bring the Rays within 7-4.

The same two players were involved in Tampa Bay's fifth run, in the sixth inning. Floyd walked to lead off the frame and went to third on a Navarro single. Hinske's grounder to first turned into a double play, but Floyd was able to get home to cut the Rays' deficit to 7-5.
