National League Game Summary - Pittsburgh at Cincinnati

Final Score: Pittsburgh 6 - Cincinnati 9

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Adam Dunn made up for poor lifetime numbers against Ian Snell, hitting a game-breaking three-run home run in the fifth frame to lead Cincinnati past Pittsburgh, 9-6, at Great American Ballpark.

Dunn's blast didn't overshadow the much-anticipated debut of Cincinnati top prospect Jay Bruce, who went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored after a scorching start to the season at Triple-A Louisville.

The Reds busted out for 12 hits and walked 10 times in their eighth straight home victory. Dunn drove in four runs and became Cincinnati's all-time left- handed home run leader with 252, passing Ted Kluszewski's 251 homers.

Johnny Cueto (3-5) picked up the victory, surrendering three runs -- two earned -- on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Francisco Cordero came in and put out a fire in the ninth for his 11th save.

Snell (2-4) cruised through four frames before a litany of walks doomed his team's chances in the fifth. Snell pitched five-plus frames and gave up seven runs on six hits with a career-high seven walks and six strikeouts.

Jack Wilson returned to the lineup with a 3-for-5 night, Adam LaRoche hit a two-run homer as part of a three RBI night and Ronny Paulino also went deep for the Pirates, who saw a brief two-game winning streak come to an end.

Cueto got into immediate trouble in the first, but used overpowering stuff to wiggle his way out of the jam. Freddy Sanchez singled then Wilson laid down a perfect bunt that was fielded by Cueto, who tossed the ball away for an error, allowing both runners to advance.

Nate McLouth was called out on strikes, Jason Bay grounded back to the mound and LaRoche beat a 3-1 pitch to first for the final out.

Snell also found himself in trouble in the home half of the frame. Jerry Hairston, Jr. singled, Bruce walked and the duo pulled off a double steal with one out. Brandon Phillips worked a walk to load the bases, but Snell continued his dominance of Dunn with a swinging strikeout. Dunn entered the at-bat just 2-for-20 lifetime against the Pirates right-hander.

He followed that with a strikeout of Edwin Encarnacion to end the threat.

The Pirates managed single runs in the second and third innings, on Paulino's RBI single in the second and Xavier Nady's RBI base hit in the third.

LaRoche's sacrifice fly plated Bay with the team's third run in the fifth. Cincinnati then put a game-changing four-spot on the scoreboard in the home half of the inning.

Snell lost complete command of the strike zone, issuing successive walks to Hairston, Jr., Bruce and Ken Griffey with one out. Phillips' high fly plated Hairston, Jr. and Dunn delivered the big blow with a three-run shot.

Cincinnati exploded for four more runs in the sixth. Consecutive singles from Joey Votto and Paul Bako set the table for David Ross' walk. Everybody moved up a base on Hairston, Jr.'s RBI single, and Bruce's first big-league RBI plated another runner. Griffey's walk forced home Ross then Dunn drove home another run with two-out base hit to left.

Bruce's first career double plated Bako for a 9-3 lead in the seventh, and Pittsburgh put three runs on the board in the top of the ninth on the pair of home runs from LaRoche and Paulino.
