Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Gregg Zaun and Marco Scutaro both homered as Toronto downed Kansas City, 7-2, to complete its first four-game sweep of the Royals in franchise history.
Zaun hit a two-run shot while Scutaro added a solo blast for the Blue Jays, who have won five straight overall. Alex Rios finished 2-for-4 with a two-run double.
Shaun Marcum (5-3) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on five hits in 7 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Jesse Carlson and Jason Frasor finished things by combining on 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
"Try to be consistent. Not put too much pressure on yourself, go out and locate good pitches. Keep the ball down," Marcum said. "(I) don't want to go out and throw a complete game. Just go out and give our team a chance to win."
Mark Teahen and Miguel Olivo each drove in a run for the reeling Royals, who have dropped eight straight.
Brett Tomko (2-6) was touched for seven runs -- six earned -- on eight hits in six innings en route to the loss.
"Right now it's tough. It's easy for everyone to start going their own way, not caring about anything," Royals outfielder David DeJesus said. "But we've got to come together once we come home, come back and make a fresh start."
The Blue Jays jumped all over Tomko with four runs in the second. Scott Rolen led off with a double and came around to score on Lyle Overbay's one-out single to right. Scutaro chased Overbay to third with his own base hit and the first baseman scored on Brad Wilkerson's sacrifice fly to right. Zaun finally capped the frame by drilling a two-run homer over the wall in right.
Toronto kept pulling away with two more runs in the fifth. Zaun started things with a double to right and, after Shannon Stewart flied out, Joe Inglett reached on a Billy Butler error. Rios followed by lacing a two-run double to right that made it a 6-0 game.
The Royals finally broke through with a pair of runs in the sixth after Marcum lost his composure for a bit. The Blue Jays starter plunked both Alex Gordon and Jose Guillen to start the inning. After Guillen was erased on Butler's ground ball to first, Teahen plated Gordon when Inglett threw his ground ball to second away.
A wild pitch let both runners advance and Olivo lifted a sac fly to right that made it a 6-2 game.
Scutaro got one of those runs back for the Blue Jays when he belted a one-out, solo shot in the home-half of the frame.
