National League Game Summary - Florida at New York

Final Score: Florida 7 - NY Mets 3

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Luis Gonzalez hit the go-ahead three-run double, and the Florida bullpen threw four perfect innings, as the Marlins opened a three-game set against the New York Mets with a 7-3 win.

Jeremy Hermida and Matt Treanor each finished 2-for-5 with a run batted in for Florida, which has won three in a row and six of seven. Mike Jacobs added a double, two walks and an RBI.

Ricky Nolasco (4-3) had a shaky start, but settled down and allowed only three runs on nine hits and a pair of walks in five innings. Doug Waechter threw two relief innings without a walk or hit. Renyel Pinto and Joe Nelson -- whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Albuquerque earlier Monday -- each tossed one.

"He battled through it, made some pitches when he had to, especially in that fifth inning," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "The rest of the guys did a terrific job."

Mike Pelfrey (2-6) was touched for six runs -- four earned -- on six hits in four innings, and picked up the loss.

Jose Reyes had a pair of solo homers, while Luis Castillo, David Wright and Carlos Beltran each had two hits. But the Mets went on to lose their second straight and seventh out of eight.

"We just can't sustain that big inning. We need to capitalize and get some runners on," Wright said. "As far as having good at-bats, I think we're heading in the right direction. We're swinging the bats well. We need to get that big hit..that back-breaking hit."

Earlier in the day, manager Willie Randolph and general manager Omar Minaya held a press conference to stress that Randolph would remain New York's manager, and that a recent meeting between Randolph and the ownership was meant -- in part -- to address the team's improvement.

"We can make an excuse and say it was a distraction, but I don't think it was a distraction one bit," Wright said. "There's no excuses for going out there and playing poorly. It's going to happen, it's a long season. We need to snap out of this and turn this thing around."

But Monday's contest didn't get the club back on track. With the Mets holding a one-run lead, the Marlins put together a rally in the third inning. After Hermida singled with one out, Jorge Cantu hit a fly ball caught by Beltran in the outfield.

But Pelfrey turned wild, as he issued a walk to Jacobs and hit Dan Uggla. Gonzalez then cleared the bases with a double to left that Beltran deflected. Treanor plated Gonzalez with a single to boost Florida's lead to 6-3.

The Marlins tacked on their final run in the eighth inning, on a Hermida single that scored Jacque Jones.

Pinto entered in the bottom half of that frame and got Carlos Delgado to strike out, Brian Schneider on a grounder and Nick Evans on a foul-tip third strike.

In the home ninth, Nelson got Endy Chavez, Damion Easley and Reyes to ground out to end the game.

Each team scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Florida benefited when Cantu reached on a Reyes error with two outs. Jacobs and Uggla followed with RBI doubles to push the Marlins in front.

But the Mets countered, as Reyes smacked a lead-off homer to right field, and three consecutive singles -- from Castillo, Wright and Beltran -- loaded the bases.

Delgado knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game. But the rally ended there, and New York couldn't put any more runs across the plate until the second inning, when Reyes hit another solo shot to right for a 3-2 edge.
