Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Dan Uggla and Jeremy Hermida each slugged a two- run home run as the Florida Marlins held off the San Francisco Giants for an 8-6 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Dolphin Stadium.
Jorge Cantu went 2-for-4, homered and scored three times for the Marlins, winners in four of their last five. Cody Ross added a solo home run, while Hanley Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Mark Hendrickson (7-2) earned the win despite allowing five runs on nine hits in five innings, while Kevin Gregg notched his 10th save.
Bengie Molina went 4-for-4 with three doubles and three runs batted in for the Giants, who had a three-game win streak ended. Aaron Rowand contributed a two- run homer and three RBI. Pat Misch (0-1) was shelled for seven runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 frames to take the loss.
The 5-5 game was delayed by rain for 29 minutes in the middle of the fourth, but in the home fifth, the Marlins charged in front. Cantu started the inning by drawing a walk, and after Wes Helms flew out, Uggla launched his 16th homer of the season, a long blast to left-center, that gave Florida a 7-5 lead.
Logan Kensing pitch a scoreless sixth, but ran into trouble in the seventh. Randy Winn scorched a one-out double to right, then came into score when Molina picked up his third double of the game. The Giants couldn't get any closer, though, as Kensing got Rowand to ground out, then struck out Rich Aurilia.
Ross restored the two-run lead in the seventh, belting a two-out solo shot to left off Billy Sadler. Matt Lindstrom held the Giants scoreless in the eighth, and Gregg worked around Jose Castillo's one-out single in the ninth for the save.
The Marlins got to Misch immediately, connecting on back-to-back homers in the first.
Ramirez walked to lead off, and Hermida turned on a 3-2 breaking ball that landed in the first few rows in right. Cantu followed by golfing a fastball over the wall in left to push the lead to 3-0 before Misch recorded an out.
The Giants responded with their next turn at the plate, as Molina led off with a line single to center and Rowand cut the lead to one with a blast over the scoreboard in left.
Hendrickson retired the first two in the third, but the Giants pieced together a rally on back-to-back singles from Castillo and Winn. Molina then crushed a fly ball over Ross' head in deep center for a two-run double that put San Francisco on top, 4-3. Hendrickson got ahead of Rowand, 1-2, but couldn't put him away as Rowand slashed a run-scoring single off the base of the wall in left.
Singles by Ramirez and Cantu, followed by a two-out intentional walk to Uggla, loaded the bases for Florida in the third. Misch walked Gonzalez to force in a run, and with Ross at the plate, Misch was called for a balk to bring in the tying run.
