Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Eric Byrnes hit his first career grand slam, and the Arizona Diamondbacks closed the game with seven unanswered runs to roll past the Atlanta Braves, 9-3, in the third of a four-game set at Turner Field.
Orlando Hudson went 3-for-5 with three doubles and a run batted in for the D- Backs, who have taken two of the first three in the series. Chris Young went 2-for-4, homered and drove in two runs, while Conor Jackson went 2-for-2 with a triple, a run scored and three walks.
Micah Owings (6-2) earned the win after allowing three runs -- two earned -- on six hits in six-plus innings.
Omar Infante drove in a run for the Braves while starting in place of Chipper Jones, who sat with back spasms. Yunel Escobar added an RBI as Atlanta lost a home day game for the first time all season, falling to 9-1.
Tom Glavine (2-2) was shelled for six runs in 4 2/3 innings, surrendering five hits and walking six.
"It was a good game played by us both ways, offensively and defensively," Hudson said. "Micah stayed in and ground it out, pitched a good game. We beat a Hall of Famer today."
Glavine worked out of bases-loaded jams in the first and third, but couldn't nurse a 3-2 lead in the fifth.
A Jackson double and walks to Justin Upton and Chris Snyder loaded the bases with one out for Byrnes. After stranding five runners on base in his first two at-bats, Byrnes finally delivered, ripping a line drive to left that caromed off the top of the wall and into the seats to give the D-Backs a 6-3 lead.
"It wasn't great," Francoeur said. "We started off alright, but that one hit just kind of crushed the momentum so, you know, we'll hopefully come out tomorrow and get the split."
Arizona added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth. Young and Stephen Drew singled off Will Ohman with one out, and Hudson brought Young around to score with a double to center. After an intentional walk to Jackson loaded the bases, Chris Resop came on but couldn't stem the tide, as Drew scored when Upton hit a flare into right that ended up as a force out when Jackson was thrown out at second.
Young added a sacrifice fly in the ninth to put the game well out of reach.
Glavine struggled from the start, as Young blasted the second pitch of the game into the stands in left for his 11th homer of the season. A double by Hudson and walks to Jackson and Upton loaded the bases with one out, and Hudson came on to score when Snyder lofted a sacrifice fly to center. But, Glavine fanned Byrnes to avert further damage.
Owings ran into trouble in the second, loading the bases on one-out singles from Brian McCann, Jeff Francoeur and Gregor Blanco. Infante lined a single to right to plate Atlanta's first run and after Glavine struck out, Escobar worked a walk to score Francoeur and tie the game before Kotsay popped up to end the rally.
After Glavine worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the third, the Braves gave him the lead in the bottom half. Kelly Johnson led off with a single, and two outs later Francoeur smashed a line drive to right that was misplayed by Upton and the ball ran all the way to the fence, allowing Johnson to score on the two-base error.
