Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Matt Joyce went 2-for-3 with a double and a two- run homer, as the Detroit Tigers powered their way to a 9-2 win over Seattle and a three-game sweep of the Mariners.
Magglio Ordonez had two doubles and two runs batted in, while Brandon Inge slugged a three-run home run for Detroit, which outscored Seattle 30-14 in the series.
Jeremy Bonderman (3-4) threw six solid innings to earn the win, as he gave up two runs on eight hits and a pair of walks. Freddy Dolsi threw three innings of scoreless relief and earned his first major league save.
"Sometimes I have a tendency to fly open during my delivery," Bonderman said. "Today I kept my motion going toward home plate. Getting first-pitch strikes was important for me. It is for any pitcher. The hitters can't sit on any one pitch when you get ahead in the count. They have to be a little more defensive."
Miguel Batista (3-6) struggled early and ended up allowing five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits in a three-inning start. R.A. Dickey was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma earlier Thursday and gave up two runs over two innings, while Sean Green gave up a pair of runs in one frame.
"I'm not very happy with the way that I pitched," Batista said. "It is very hard to explain. My command was better than my last start. I threw hard and was able to be around the plate most of the time."
Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-4, while Raul Ibanez drove in a run for the Mariners, who have lost six of nine.
Detroit put a run on the board in the first, when Ordonez followed Gary Sheffield's single with a double to right for the RBI.
In the home second, Joyce doubled with one out, and Edgar Renteria reached on a fielding error by Batista. The Mariners' starter then made a second mistake by leaving a breaking ball up to Inge, who hammered it over the left field wall for the three-run homer.
Jeremy Reed had a chance to make the catch, as the ball just sneaked over the wall, but his glove fell off as he jumped and the Tigers went up, 4-0.
The teams traded runs in the third. Seattle got one run back on Ibanez's two- out RBI single that scored Yuniesky Betancourt. But Renteria plated Miguel Cabrera with a sacrifice fly to restore Detroit's four-run lead.
The Mariners made it a 5-2 game in the top of the fifth when Ibanez grounded into a double play with the bases loaded, plating Ichiro.
"We get in the hole every night. It's a uphill battle every game," Mariners manager John McLaren said. "We had runners in scoring position but we could get only one run. That's not going to cut it. This has been very tough on us. I know we are capable of winning, but we are just not doing it."
But Detroit stormed back in the bottom half, after Carlos Guillen doubled with one out. Joyce hammered a 2-2 curveball over the right field wall to give the Tigers a five-run edge.
They added another pair of runs in the sixth, when a ground-rule double from Ordonez plated Curtis Granderson, and a sacrifice fly off Cabrera's bat brought Sheffield home for a 9-2 Detroit advantage.
Dolsi didn't allow a baserunner in his three innings of work, and threw just 33 pitches, to finish off the game.
