Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Lyle Overbay went 2-for-3 and hit the go- ahead homer in the sixth inning, as the Toronto Blue Jays edged the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 4-3, to salvage the finale of a three-game set.
Brad Wilkerson was 1-for-4 with a run batted in for the Jays, who have won three of their last five games. Joe Inglett and Rod Barajas each added an RBI in the win.
A.J. Burnett (5-4) was dealt the win as he gave up three runs on six hits in six frames on the hill; he also fanned six batters and walked two. B.J. Ryan earned his 10th save with a perfect ninth.
Garret Anderson and Casey Kotchman both ended with a pair of hits for the Angels, who were defeated for just the second time in six tries. Maicer Izturis, Jeff Mathis and Sean Rodriguez knocked in a run apiece in defeat.
Ervin Santana (6-2) was dealt the loss as he was roughed up for four runs on nine hits in six-plus innings, despite racking up seven K's to only two walks.
"It starts out with too many pitches," Santana said. "Like the first few innings I threw too many pitches. A couple of bloopers and I can't do anything about it; one mistake and that was a backdoor slider to the first baseman."
L.A. tied it up in the sixth. Torii Hunter worked a two-out walk and moved to third on Kotchman's single. Mathis then knocked a single up the middle to plate Hunter.
Overbay's solo shot in the latter sixth put Toronto back on top, 4-3, and proved to be the difference-maker.
"Just trying to battle," Overbay said. "He hung a pitch, I knew it was going down and in, he didn't get it down enough and actually I put a pretty good swing on it."
The Blue Jays made it 2-0 in the home third. Marco Scutaro clocked a double to right field and came around to score when Inglett tripled to center. Wilkerson added an RBI single, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.
Toronto tacked on another run in the fourth. Alex Rios led off the fourth with a single and stole second base. Two batters later, Overbay worked a walk and Shannon Stewart singled to load the bases. Barajas followed with an RBI single to right field.
The Angels made it 3-2 in the fifth. Kotchman hit a single and Mathis was hit by a pitch, before Brandon Wood grounded into a double play, leaving Kotchman at third. Consecutive doubles from Rodriguez and Izturis provided the runs.
