National League Game Summary - Cincinnati at San Diego

Final Score: Cincinnati 2 - San Diego 8

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Khalil Greene homered twice and Randy Wolf pitched seven solid innings, as the San Diego Padres downed the Cincinnati Reds, 8-2, in the opener of a four-game set at Petco Park.

Wolf (3-4) earned the win after he allowed two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and also added an RBI single for the Padres, who entered this series with only two wins in their last eight games overall. Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Kouzmanoff both added two-run homers in the win.

"If you (allow the opponent) to hit four home runs in this park, you know you've made some mistakes," said Reds manager Dusty Baker. "We need to hit better and make better pitches."

Ken Griffey belted his 598th career home run -- also his 200th as a member of the Reds -- in the losing effort. Cincinnati has now dropped four straight after a six-game win streak.

Aaron Harang (2-6) suffered the loss after he allowed five runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

Prior to the game, the Padres placed starting pitcher Chris Young on the 15- day disabled list. Both he and catcher Josh Bard, who went on the DL late Wednesday night, were injured in the third inning of Wednesday's loss to St. Louis. Young was struck directly in the face by an Albert Pujols line drive. He has a broken nose and Bard has a sprained left knee from a collision at the plate, also with Pujols.

The Padres grabbed a 3-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Tadahito Iguchi poked a two-out single and attempted to steal second base. On the play, the throw from catcher Paul Bako was wide and landed in shallow center field, which allowed Iguchi to move to third.

Brian Giles then grounded a base hit through the middle of the infield and Iguchi crossed the plate. The next batter was Gonzalez, who belted a towering drive into deep right field. Gonzalez did not start his run to first base because he initially thought the ball was headed foul, but it clanked off the inside of the pole for his 13th home run of the season and the Padres led 3-2.

Two more runs in the home sixth gave the Padres a three-run edge. Greene led off with his fourth homer of the season before Luke Carlin's one-out double. When Wolf laced a single to right field, Carlin crossed the plate.

The scoring was capped with three San Diego runs in the seventh. Gonzalez doubled with one out and Kouzmanoff homered to deep center off of Mike Lincoln before Greene followed with his second home run of the game.

Mike Adams, who was recalled from Triple-A Portland earlier Thursday, tossed the final two innings to close it out.

The Reds took an early lead on Griffey's fifth homer of 2008, which also scored Ryan Freel. Freel led off the game with a single.

"It's tough to make that mistake early and put us in a hole, but luckily we were able to keep them there and able to score some runs," said Wolf.
