American League Game Summary - LA Angels of Anaheim at Toronto

Final Score: LA Angels 4 - Toronto 3

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Vladimir Guerrero blasted two home runs and knocked in all four runs for Los Angeles, lifting the Angels over the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 at the Rogers Centre.

Los Angeles starter Jon Garland (5-3) tossed six innings of three-run ball on eight hits and two walks for the win, the Angels third straight and fourth in their last five.

Singles by Garret Anderson and Chone Figgins were the only other hits for Los Angeles, which won despite being outhit 11-4.

Toronto starter Shaun Marcum (4-3) allowed all four runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings. He walked three, struck out seven and retired 12 straight after Guerrero's second homer.

"This is a tough loss," Marcum said. "You go out and pitch well, and just two pitches get away. Not even away, but just made contact by a good hitter. He hits them into the seats and you end up losing the game, so it's tough."

Alex Rios and Greg Zaun had two hits and a run batted in apiece. Matt Stairs knocked in the other run for Toronto, which has dropped two straight after taking six of seven overall.

Toronto started the seventh with back-to-back singles and made it first and third with no outs after a passed ball, but LA's Jose Arredondo got Scott Rolen swinging and Stairs grounded into a double play to end the threat.

Toronto put a man in scoring position in the eighth but Marco Scutaro hit into an inning-ending double play.

Francisco Rodriguez came on in the ninth for LA and issued a one-out walk to Aaron Hill. Rios gave one a ride to the warning track in left but Anderson tracked it down and Rolen popped out to shallow left to give Rodriguez his major league leading 19th save.

"Toronto was swinging the bats well," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "They had a lot of opportunities, hit some balls well and the double play helped us. We played good defense and our pitchers spread out some hits. And Vladimir offensively did everything."

LA jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Guerrero two-out home run.

Toronto's two-out rally tied it up in the home half. Rios walked, Rolen moved him to third with a single and Stairs ripped a single to right, scoring Rios.

LA jumped back on top in the third on Guerrero's second homer of the game. Figgins and Gary Matthews worked one-out walks and Guerrero golfed a first-pitch fastball into the second deck in left for a 4-1 lead.

The Jays got one back in the fifth on a Rios RBI single and cut the lead to one in the sixth.

Lyle Overbay stroked a one-out double to the gap in right-center and two batters later Zaun lined a single that caromed off Garland's leg and into left field, allowing Overbay to score.

Scutaro followed with a two-out single, but Casey Kotchman made a diving stab on a line drive off the bat of Brad Wilkerson to preserve the Halos lead at one.
