American League Game Summary - Cleveland at Chicago

Final Score: Cleveland 1 - Chicago WSox 4

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Carlos Quentin and Jim Thome each belted a solo home run, and Jose Contreras was strong for six-plus innings as the streaking Chicago White Sox topped the Cleveland Indians, 4-1, in the opener of a three- game series at U.S. Cellular Field.

Contreras (5-3) allowed a run on four hits for the White Sox, who are riding a six-game win streak. Four pitchers combined to throw three perfect innings in relief, with Bobby Jenks finishing it off for his 11th save.

Pablo Ozuna came off the bench and went 2-for-2 with a run knocked in after Joe Crede was ejected in the fourth inning for arguing balls and strikes. Jermaine Dye and Alexei Ramirez both collected a pair of hits.

Grady Sizemore drove in the lone run for the Indians, losers in four straight.

C.C. Sabathia (3-6) took the loss despite seven excellent innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits while fanning eight. Jensen Lewis allowed two runs in an inning of relief.

After allowing early runs. both pitchers settled down and controlled the opposing lineups until Ryan Garko's infield single to start the top of the seventh chased Contreras. But, Matt Thornton came on to get David Dellucci to ground into a 1-6-3 double play, then Octavio Dotel came out of the bullpen to fan Casey Blake.

Scott Linebrink retired the Tribe in order in the top of the eighth, and the White Sox struck against Lewis in the bottom half. Quentin worked a leadoff walk, and Dye followed with a line single into center. Quentin headed to third on the single, with Dye making it to second on the throw before Thome was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Paul Konerko was caught looking for the first out, but Ozuna poked a single into right to give the White Sox a 3-1 lead. Nick Swisher then plated Dye with a grounder to second, and Ramirez was hit in the back to reload the bases. But, Lewis got Orlando Cabrera to fly out to right to avoid greater damage.

Jenks retired Ben Francisco, Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez in the ninth to lock up the win.

Quentin put the Indians on top in the bottom of the first, launching a two-out blast over the wall in dead center for his American League-best 12th homer.

Thome provided opposite field power in the bottom of the second, leading off with a homer to left that extended the lead to 2-0.

Blake and Jamey Carroll picked up back-to-back singles to start the third, and both were moved up by Asdrubal Cabrera's sacrifice bunt. Sizemore followed with a grounder to first that plated Blake for Cleveland's only run.
