Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Yunel Escobar went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, as the Atlanta Braves downed the Oakland Athletics, 5-2, in the rubber match of a three-game interleague set at Turner Field.
Jo-Jo Reyes (2-1) gave up two runs on eight hits and struck out six in five- plus innings to pick up the win for Atlanta, which improved to 7-0 in home day games. Jeff Bennett tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
"It's good to see the team get some runs," Reyes said. "The bullpen has been awesome this year. If they keep it up, we'll go a long way."
Omar Infante added a pinch-hit two-run triple for the Braves, while Gregor Blanco had two hits and scored a run.
Justin Duchscherer (3-3) gave up three runs on seven hits over five innings to absorb the loss for Oakland, which has dropped seven of its last nine outings.
Bobby Crosby hit a solo home run, while Mike Sweeney, Jack Cust, Rob Bowen and Gregorio Petit each had two hits in the loss.
"We really didn't get it done with runners in scoring position," Crosby said. "We got plenty of opportunities, but couldn't capitalize."
Crosby gave the visitors an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a solo blast deep into the seats in left field, but the Braves countered in the bottom of the first on Brian McCann's two-out RBI double.
The first three batters reached base for Oakland in the second, but Reyes fanned Duchscherer and Rajai Davis and got Crosby to ground out to end the threat.
Atlanta scratched out a pair of runs in the next frame to grab a 3-1 lead. Kelly Johnson and Blanco singled and, after a sacrifice bunt from Reyes moved both men into scoring position, Escobar lined a two-run single to left field.
In the sixth, Jack Hannahan followed a leadoff single by Emil Brown with a double to center field, which cut the deficit to 3-2. Oakland wasted a one-out triple by Bowen in the eighth, as Blaine Boyer struck out Petit and Daric Barton to preserve the lead for Atlanta.
Infante provided some much-needed insurance with a pinch-hit two-out, two-run triple in the next frame.
Will Ohman started the ninth and struck out Ryan Sweeney before he was replaced by Manny Acosta. Acosta issued a walk to Crosby, but got Sweeney and Cust to fly out to end the game.
