National League Game Summary - San Diego at Atlanta

Final Score: San Diego 2 - Atlanta 5

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Tim Hudson tossed seven solid innings, surrendering two runs on six hits, and Brian McCann went 3-for-4 with a double and scored the go-ahead run, as the Atlanta Braves bested the San Diego Padres, 5-2, to extend their winning streak to six games.

After enduring a season-high four-game skid, all Atlanta needed was some home cooking. Turner Field has provided true homefield advantage of late, as the Braves have triumphed in six consecutive contests -- five on the homestand that wraps up Thursday -- and 12 of the last 14 in Atlanta.

Mark Kotsay scored and knocked in a run for the Braves, who have won 15 of the last 19 meetings with San Diego. Yunel Escobar, Greg Norton and Kelly Johnson each added an RBI.

Hudson (5-2) struck out three and walked three in the victory, his third in the last four decisions. Hudson tossed a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and no walks in the 2-0 win against Cincinnati on May 2 that sparked Atlanta's current win streak. The veteran right-hander improved to 3-0 in six career appearances against the Padres. Manny Acosta came in to record his third save of the season, fanning one of the two batters he faced.

"It was a good win for us," said Hudson. "We've got a little streak going here. It was a tough game. I felt pretty good out there -- a little bit of a battle at times with some pitches -- but overall it was a good game for us."

Kevin Kouzmanoff went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for San Diego, which has dropped three straight, five of six and 16 of its last 20 games. The Padres conclude a nine- game trek -- on which they have gone 2-6 -- on Thursday against the Braves.

Randy Wolf (2-2) gave up all five runs on eight hits and four walks over six innings. After opening the campaign unbeaten through four starts, the southpaw has gone 0-2 in his last three outings. Wolf slipped to 4-10 lifetime in 24 appearances against Atlanta.

"I felt like I was battling there all day," explained Wolf. "I never felt like I was in control. I definitely didn't have my good stuff (or) good command -- I just kind of battled through it. The seventh inning, it definitely got away from me. I threw some pitches that I wanted to throw, and I didn't get the result that I obviously wanted."

The Braves broke open a 2-2 tie in the seventh after they chased Wolf out of the game. McCann doubled to left, Matt Diaz singled to left, and after falling behind in the count 0-2, Kotsay drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Joe Thatcher was called upon to toe the rubber in the tight spot, while Atlanta countered with Norton pinch-hitting for Hudson.

Norton won the battle when he laced a base hit up the middle that plated McCann, and Johnson then lifted a sacrifice fly to left that allowed Diaz to score. Escobar ended the offensive outburst with a single to left that brought in Kotsay, and the Braves surged ahead, 5-2.

Hudson got into trouble in the second, as Kouzmanoff led off with a double to left, and moved to third when Paul McAnulty followed with a base hit to shallow center. Hudson was then called for a balk, which allowed Kouzmanoff to trot home and McAnulty to advance to second.

Hudson began an attempted pick-off move by stepping more toward the plate than the runner at third, though Braves manager Bobby Cox ran onto the field to dispute the call, pointing out Hudson's footprint in the dirt on the hill. Umpire Wally Bell could have ejected Cox immediately, as a balk cannot be argued, but instead let Cox plead his case before tossing him from the game, extending Cox's MLB record to 137 ejections with his second of the season.

Atlanta responded by loading the bases with no outs in the home half of the frame, as Mark Teixeira and Jeff Francoeur drew back-to-back walks before McCann singled to left. Diaz then grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, but Teixeira scored on the play, and Francoeur moved to third. When Kotsay smacked a single to center, Francoeur crossed the plate to give the Braves a 2-1 edge.

With runners on the corners and none out in the sixth, Hudson induced a double play off the bat of Kouzmanoff, but Tadahito Iguchi came home as San Diego knotted the affair.
