Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Scott Olsen allowed just two hits over 8 2/3 shutout innings, and Luis Gonzalez went 4-for-4 and knocked in a run as the Florida Marlins topped the Milwaukee Brewers, 3-0, in the opener of a three- game series.
Olsen (4-1) struck out eight and issued four walks in falling one out short of his first career complete game. Kevin Gregg only needed one pitch to record his sixth save.
Mike Jacobs belted a two-run homer, while Dan Uggla and Hanley Ramirez scored a run apiece, as the Marlins won for the third time in four games.
Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun had the only hits for the Brewers, who lost their fourth straight game. Jeff Suppan (1-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits in five-plus innings.
Florida picked up a run in the second, as Uggla lined a one-out double to the gap in left-center, then charged in to score when Gonzalez flared a single in front of Braun in left.
Ramirez walked with two outs in the third, and Jacobs followed up by crushing a Suppan fastball just over the wall in straightaway center.
"Just looking for something out over the plate and hit it well," Jacobs said. "Didn't think it was going to go, but it snuck over there in a big part of this park, so I'm happy to take it."
The Marlins loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth, sandwiching singles by Jorge Cantu and Gonzalez around a walk to Uggla to force Suppan from the game in favor of David Riske. The reliever struck out Mike Rabelo and Olsen, then got Alfredo Amezaga on a fielder's choice to escape unscathed.
But, Milwaukee never pieced together a threat against Olsen, as he retired nine straight after walking Jason Kendall to start the sixth.
Olsen issued a walk to Rickie Weeks to lead off the ninth, and two outs later Fielder pulled a single to right, then pinch-hitter Joe Dillon worked a walk. That chased Olsen in favor of Gregg, who retired Bill Hall on one pitch on a fly ball to lock down the win.
"I'm not really concerned about it," Olsen said of being pulled. "I'll go out there in five days and see what happens. We got the win and that's really all that's important. As long as I can keep the team in a game and get the 'W' that's really all that matters."
