American League Game Summary - Chicago at Toronto

Final Score: Chicago WSox 0 - Toronto 1

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Dustin McGowan hurled 7 1/3 shutout innings, and Matt Stairs hit his fourth home run of the year for the game's lone run as the Toronto Blue Jays completed a four-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 1-0 win at Rogers Centre.

McGowan (2-2) allowed just four hits while striking out six and walking none, and B.J. Ryan worked around three walks in the ninth for his fifth save. Shannon Stewart went 3-for-4 with a triple, while Vernon Wells and Aaron Hill each doubled.

"Everybody's doing great," McGowan said of the Jays' pitching staff. "It's one of those contagious things. You just see them pitch well, you want to pitch well to be part of it. It's going good right now for us."

With the win, the Jays pulled off the first four-game sweep by either team in the history of the series.

The loss spoiled a brilliant outing for Javier Vazquez (3-3), who took the loss despite allowing one run on eight hits in 7 2/3 frames, striking out nine. Juan Uribe had two of the four hits for the White Sox, who lost their sixth straight.

Both pitchers cruised through six innings, but Toronto finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh, as Stairs started the frame by lacing a hanging curve ball over the wall in right-center for the first run of the game. Two outs later, Hill lined a double to center, but Gregg Zaun was caught looking to end the threat.

McGowan was lifted for Jesse Carlson after Uribe's one-out single in the eighth. Carlson hit pinch-hitter A.J. Pierzynski and was removed in favor of Shawn Camp, who got Orlando Cabrera to hit into a fielder's choice and retired Carlos Quentin on a fly ball to left.

Vazquez ran in to trouble with two outs in the eighth, as Stewart reached on an infield single and Scott Rolen walked. But, Matt Thornton came on to fan Stairs and keep the deficit at 1-0.

Ryan loaded the bases with one out in the ninth after issuing consecutive walks to Paul Konerko, Jermaine Dye and Nick Swisher. But, Pablo Ozuna grounded back to the mound and Ryan threw to the plate to start a game-ending double play.

The White Sox put together their best threat of the game in the third, as Uribe reached on a leadoff single and moved to third on Toby Hall's double to left, but McGowan settled down to escape the jam and keep Chicago off the board.

The Jays didn't threaten until Wells golfed a leadoff double to left in the fifth, but Vazquez retired three in a row to avoid any damage. Stewart stroked a two-out triple to deep center in the bottom of the sixth, but was stranded when Rolen grounded out to short.
