American League Game Summary - Baltimore at Oakland

Final Score: Baltimore 1 - Oakland 2

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Emil Brown had three hits, including the game- winning single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, as the Athletics beat Baltimore, 2-1, in the opener of a three-game series.

Brown was on base four times and Rajai Davis drove in the other run for Oakland, which has won two straight.

"He's had a pretty good batting average with runners in scoring position his whole career," A's manager Bob Geren said of Brown. "He keeps the ball in the middle of the field and in RBI situations you have a better chance that way."

Dana Eveland allowed three hits in seven-plus shutout innings for the A's, and Joey Devine (3-0) struck out two batters in the 10th to get the victory.

Ramon Hernandez knocked in the lone run for Baltimore, which has dropped three in a row, tying a season-high. The Orioles had just five hits.

Garrett Olson struck out seven batters over 6 1/3 innings. He also gave up four hits and a run, but Jim Johnson (0-1) suffered the loss.

"His approach has been a lot more business-like this year, plus he's stronger," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said of Olson. "He regained command of his pitches and tonight he showed location. He pitched a great ball game."

Daric Barton singled to right with two outs in the bottom of the 10th and Frank Thomas walked before Brown singled to left-center field. The throw to the plate from center fielder Adam Jones was high and late.

The A's scored in the seventh inning. With the bases full, Davis hit a ball to the right side of the infield. Reliever Jamie Walker was late covering first base, and Brown scored.

The Orioles put runners at second and third with one out in the eighth, but couldn't score as Alan Embree retired Brian Roberts on a fly ball and Nick Markakis on a grounder to end the inning.

However, Huston Street blew the save in the ninth. Melvin Mora doubled to left leading off and Aubrey Huff walked. Kevin Millar flied out to put runners at the corners before Hernandez chopped a ball to shortstop. Bobby Crosby looked toward home, but instead threw to first for the sure out, allowing Mora to score.

The A's had a runner at third in the ninth, but Davis grounded into a force play to end the threat.
