American League Game Summary - Kansas City at Cleveland

Final Score: Kansas City 2 - Cleveland 0

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Miguel Olivo hit a solo home run and scored twice while Gil Meche pitched seven strong innings as the Kansas City Royals edged the Cleveland Indians, 2-0, sweeping the rain-shortened two-game series at Progressive Field.

Meche (2-4) picked up the win, surrendering only four singles, while striking out four and not allowing a walk. Joakim Soria slammed the door in the ninth to earn his eighth save of the season.

The Royals, who have won three of their last five, had five hits for the game.

Aaron Laffey (0-2) was the hard luck loser for the Tribe. The left-hander tossed seven effective frames, giving up one unearned run and four hits, while fanning five and walking a pair. Laffey, who was making the start in place of the injured Jake Westbrook, fell to 2-2 lifetime versus the Indians.

Ryan Garko had two hits for Cleveland, which has dropped two in a row and five of its last seven.

With the game scoreless after four innings, the Royals were able to manufacture a run in the fifth. Olivo got things started with a two-out single and John Buck drew a free pass. Tony Pena, Jr. then hit a grounder to third, but Casey Blake's throwing error allowed Olivo to score, giving the Royals a 1-0 lead.

Neither team was able to mount much of an offensive threat throughout the contest and the Royals held the slim edge heading into the final frame.

In the top half of the ninth, a two-out homer to left by Olivo, put KC up 2-0.

Soria came on for the bottom half and retired the side in order to preserve the win.
