American League Game Summary - Detroit at Minnesota

Final Score: Detroit 6 - Minnesota 7

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Joe Mauer went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Minnesota Twins in a 7-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers to complete the three-game sweep.

Nick Punto finished 1-for-3 with two RBI for the Twins, who have rattled off five victories in a row.

Boof Bonser started for Minnesota, but was roughed up for six runs -- five earned -- on eight hits in six frames and did not factor in the decision. Matt Guerrier (2-1) got the win as he gave up just one hit in two innings of work. Joe Nathan earned his 11th save of the year by yielding just one hit in the ninth.

Curtis Granderson hit a solo home run and Edgar Renteria finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored for the Tigers, who were swept by the Twins on the heels of sweeping the Yankees in New York. Placido Polanco also had two hits in defeat.

"After that we had to go nine innings, that's our motto, 27 outs," Granderson said. "They just battled back, got a couple runs, kept chipping away and finally got three runs."

Kenny Rogers started and gave up five runs -- three earned -- on six hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. Zach Miner (1-2) was charged with the loss after he gave up two runs on two hits and failing to record an out.

The Twins pulled ahead in the seventh. Matt Tolbert cracked a two-out double and Punto reached on an error by Carlos Guillen. Miner then came on in relief of Rogers and gave up an RBI single to Carlos Gomez. Brendan Harris managed an RBI ground-rule double and Bobby Seay came to the mound in relief. Mauer belted a two-RBI single to center, and Minnesota was up 7-6.

"Today was a huge win, especially with the fashion we were able to win it in," Twins right-fielder Michael Cuddyer said. "To be able to fight our way back in, get some good pitching and good hitting, it was a huge win for us."

Granderson led off the game off with a home run. Polanco, Miguel Cabrera and Magglio Ordonez all reached to load the bases, with Ordonez's single scoring Polanco. Guillen followed with an RBI single. Renteria also added an RBI single, and Ivan Rodriguez struck out, but reached on a wild pitch from Bonser, which also scored Guillen. Renteria then scored on a throwing error from Mauer. The Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the middle of the first.

Mauer broke up Rogers' no-hitter in the fourth with a double, and touched home on Justin Morneau's single.

The Twins rallied in the fifth. Craig Monroe and Delmon Young led off with singles and Punto's double scored them both. Minnesota had pulled within 6-3 after five frames.
