National League Game Summary - San Diego at Florida

Final Score: San Diego 7 - Florida 2

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored to lead the San Diego Padres past the Florida Marlins, 7-2, in the second installment of a three-game set.

Tadahito Iguchi finished 2-for-5 with two RBI for the Padres, who halted their recent two-game skid. Kevin Kouzmanoff and Jim Edmonds both recorded a pair of hits, while Brian Giles scored twice.

Jake Peavy (4-1) got the win after he went 5 2/3 innings and gave up just two runs on five hits, while striking out eight.

"Peavy pitched good," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "We tried to go deep in the pitch count and we did, but he gave them six strong innings and we couldn't get anything going offensively. He was good tonight."

Mike Jacobs hit a two-run home run for Florida, which has dropped four of its last five games. Jeremy Hermida went 3-for-4 and scored a run in defeat. Alfredo Amezaga and Mike Rabelo were the only other Marlins to record a hit.

Ricky Nolasco (1-3) was dealt the loss after he was touched for six runs on 10 hits in just 4 2/3 frames.

San Diego wasted no time in putting a run on the board. Giles led off the game with a walk, moved to second on Iguchi's single and held at third as Adrian Gonzalez grounded into a double play. A Kouzmanoff single to left field plated Giles, and the Padres were up 1-0 after a half an inning of baseball.

Jacobs put the Marlins on top in the home first. Hermida got on base with a single, and two batters later, Jacobs launched a 1-1 fastball over the fence in left. Florida was up 2-1 after the first inning.

"It was a pretty good pitch and off the plate," Peavy said of home-run ball to Jacobs. "Obviously he had to be trying to do that. I've gotten a lot of outs on that pitch over the last few years. It was just the wrong pitch to throw there."

Paul McAnulty started a Padre rally in the second after he was hit by a pitch. Giles' single made it first and third, and Iguchi then launched a two-run double over the head of Luis Gonzalez in left field. San Diego went up 3-2.

San Diego added some insurance runs in the fifth. With one out, Adrian Gonzalez, Kouzmanoff and Edmonds all got on to load the bases. Khalil Greene then grounded into what looked like an inning-ending double play, but Hanley Ramirez misplayed it and only got Edmonds at second. Adrian Gonzalez and Kouzmanoff scored on the play and Greene stayed at first.

Josh Bard then cracked a double to left field to plate Greene, and Nolasco was chased in favor of Doug Waechter, who got out of the inning. The damage had been done though, and the Padres were up 6-2.

Adrian Gonzalez added a solo shot in the ninth for the 7-2 San Diego lead.

Joe Thatcher toed the rubber for the Padres in the ninth, and issued a lead off walk to Rabelo, but got pinch-hitter Wes Helms to ground into a 4-6-3 double play. Amezaga grounded out to end the game.
