American League Game Summary - Chicago at Toronto

Final Score: Chicago WSox 0 - Toronto 2

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Shaun Marcum was extremely efficient on the mound and Shannon Stewart's two-run single in the first inning provided all the offense, as the Toronto Blue Jays blanked the Chicago White Sox, 2-0, in the opener of a four-game series at Rogers Centre.

Marcum (3-2) scattered two hits over 6 2/3 innings and struck out nine batters to earn the victory. Four relievers combined to toss 2 1/3 frames of hitless ball.

"It was just one of those days," Marcum said. "I felt like I was locating all of my pitches very well."

Vernon Wells and Stewart each had two hits for the Blue Jays, who were coming off a 2-7 road trip.

Mark Buehrle (1-3) was the hard-luck loser, yielding two unearned runs on five hits, while striking out seven in a complete game effort.

"As far as a pitching standpoint, we just got to keep doing what we're doing," Buehrle said.

Orlando Cabrera notched both hits -- a pair of singles -- for the White Sox, who have dropped three straight.

A costly throwing error by Chicago third baseman Joe Crede prolonged the bottom of the first and the Blue Jays took full advantage. After Buehrle sent down the first two batters, Scott Rolen reached base on Crede's miscue and Wells followed with a ground-rule double. Stewart then hit a grounder back through the middle for a two-run single.

Meanwhile, Marcum took a no-hitter into the fourth before allowing a leadoff single to Cabrera.

Toronto had an opportunity to pad its lead in the bottom of the frame, but failed to cash in with runners on second and third and nobody out.

Marcum was cruising along until the seventh when he issued a pair of two-out walks and was subsequently replaced by Jeremy Accardo, who immediately walked Brian Anderson to load the bases. Accardo settled down, though, and got Juan Uribe to fly out to right to end the threat.

In the eighth, Jesse Carlson retired the Sox in order. Shawn Camp struck out Jermaine Dye to begin the ninth before he was lifted for Scott Downs, who got A.J. Pierzynski and Carlos Quentin to ground out to record his second save of the season.
