Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Fausto Carmona pitched seven strong innings, and Grady Sizemore went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, as Cleveland dominated the Chicago White Sox, 7-2.
Carmona (1-0), who is coming off a 2007 campaign that saw him go 19-8 with a 3.06 earned run average, gave up just one run on four hits. He also walked and struck out four in the win.
Sizemore tripled and also scored twice for the Indians, who defeated Chicago in the season-opener on Monday. Cleveland also opened last season with two straight wins over the White Sox.
Javier Vazquez (0-1) gave up four runs on five hits in five innings. He also struck out six and walked four. Vazquez led the White Sox in wins (15) and strikeouts (213) last season, but struggled to find his form on Wednesday.
A.J. Pierzynski went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, but no other Chicago player had more than one hit, and none of them went for extra bases.
Unlike Monday, when Cleveland scored seven runs in one inning, the Indians gradually built up a lead, starting in the second. Franklin Gutierrez was hit by a pitch, and David Dellucci and Kelly Shoppach worked walks to load the bases.
Sizemore came up and singled to left field, giving Cleveland a 2-0 lead.
The White Sox got one run back in the top of the fifth, as Pierzynski crossed home on a Joe Crede single.
But in the bottom half of the same inning, Sizemore legged out a triple, and scored easily when the next batter, Asdrubal Cabrera, fought off a pitch over second base into the outfield.
Though Cabrera was forced out in a fielder's choice -- the second out of the inning -- the Indians loaded the bases. Gutierrez walked to force in a run, and pushed Cleveland's edge to 4-1.
Mike MacDougal replaced Vazquez for the sixth inning, but the Indians tacked on two more runs, and Sizemore again played a part. Casey Blake led off the inning with a walk, and Shoppach -- the backup catcher, playing in place of the injured Victor Martinez (hamstring) -- doubled, leaving runners on second and third.
Sizemore singled, plating Blake. Cabrera followed with another RBI single, giving Cleveland a 6-2 edge -- which grew to 7-2 after Ryan Garko knocked in Sizemore in the eighth.
Pierzynski led off the ninth inning with a homer, but Jorge Julio closed out the game from there.
