Adrian Gonzalez and Luis Rodriguez each had two hits for the Padres, who erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Randy Wolf surrendered two runs on five hits and struck out five batters in three innings of work. Wade LeBlanc pitched three solid innings in relief to pick up the win.
Brad Eldred finished 1-for-2 with a solo home run, while Pablo Ozuna and Paul Phillips each had two-hit days for Chicago. Jose Contreras yielded two runs on four hits over four innings. Octavio Dotel absorbed the loss after yielding three runs in one inning.
