Bradenton, FL (Sports Network) - Steve Pearce hit a two-run homer and scored twice, as the Pittsburgh Pirates scraped out an 8-7 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in Grapefruit League play.
Xavier Nady also homered, while Freddy Sanchez and Andrew McCutchen each drove in a pair of runs for the Pirates, who scored three times in the bottom of the ninth to win.
Tom Gorzelanny gave up five runs in 1 1/3 innings in the start, but was bailed out by his offense, and Casey Fossum got the win after working a scoreless top of the ninth.
David Eckstein had a second-inning grand slam off Gorzelanny, Rod Barajas went 2-for-2 with a double. Dustin McGowan gave up three runs in a two-inning start, but Jean Machi got the loss by allowing three runs in 1 1/3 innings.
