Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Andy Pettitte made his Grapefruit League debut, tossing two scoreless innings as the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies played to a 7-7 tie at Legends Field.
Pettitte, who has endured a turbulant offseason, threw 21 pitches, including 13 for strikes. It was his first outing of the spring, and comes on the heels of testimony he provided to a Congressional committee that links Roger Clemens to the use of human growth hormone.
Jason Giambi clubbed a three-run homer, while Jason Lane added a solo shot for the Yankees, who went through seven pitchers following Pettitte's departure.
Cole Hamels was hit hard in his spring debut for the Phillies. The southpaw allowed four earned runs on three hits in just two innings of work. He walked a pair and also fanned two in the outing.
Non-roster invitee Brennan King went 2-for-3 and knocked in a pair of runs for Phildelphia, while Pat Burrell added a solo homer.
