Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Joel Hanrahan pitched six innings of one- run, one-hit ball and Jesus Flores homered as the Washington Nationals downed the San Francisco Giants, 4-1, in the second of a three-game set at RFK Stadium.
Hanrahan (4-2) walked one and struck out two. Ray King and Jesus Colome combined for a hitless seventh, Jon Rauch yielded one hit in the eighth and Chad Cordero threw a perfect ninth for his 29th save in 37 chances for the Nationals, who limited the Giants to two hits while snapping a seven-game losing streak.
Pedro Feliz homered for the Giants, who have lost two of three.
San Francisco starter Jonathon Sanchez (1-3) went 5 1/3 frames, allowing three runs on six hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts.
The Nationals went ahead for good in the sixth. With one out, Sanchez walked Austin Kearns and hit Wily Mo Pena before being relieved by Scott Atchinson, who yielded an infield single to Ronnie Belliard loading the bases for Jesus Flores. Flores then singled to center, scoring Kearns and pinch-hitter Ryan Church followed with a sacrifice fly to right, plating Pena for a 3-1 lead.
In the seventh, Washington added an insurance run when Ryan Zimmerman doubled to left scoring Felipe Lopez, who led off with a walk.
San Francisco got on the board in the top of the fifth on Feliz's solo homer to left, his 17th of the season.
Flores knotted the game at 1-1 in the home half with his fourth homer of the year, a lead-off shot to right-center.
