American League Game Summary - Toronto at Tampa Bay

Final Score: Toronto 2 - Tampa Bay 6

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - Carl Crawford's sixth-inning two-run homer gave Tampa Bay the lead and the Devil Rays went on to beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-2, at Tropicana Field.

Crawford ended 3-for-4 and Akinori Iwamura went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Devil Rays, who have won three of four, including two of three in this set. Jonny Gomes also homered and Brendan Harris had two hits and two RBI for Tampa Bay, which improved to 3-3 on its nine-game homestand.

Alex Rios and Matt Stairs each drove in a run for the Blue Jays, who had just five hits to end a six-game road trip 2-4.

Trailing 2-1, Iwamura started the sixth inning with a triple off the top of the wall in left field against Toronto starting pitcher Josh Towers. Crawford then followed with his eighth homer of the season and second of the series.

Crawford also homered in the 11th inning on Monday night to lift the Devil Rays to a 5-4 win in the opener.

The Devil Rays added one more run in the inning while also forcing Towers to the clubhouse. After B.J. Upton followed Crawford with a strikeout, Carlos Pena walked and moved to third when Delmon Young doubled.

Harris greeted reliever Brandon League with a single to plate Pena, but Young was thrown out at the plate for the second out.

Iwamura added a sacrifice fly to plate Dioner Navarro in the seventh. Harris doubled home Young in the eighth to add to the cushion.

Towers (5-8) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked two, losing for the third time in four outings.

"It started out good for us, late in the game my control was not good," said Towers. "The home run showed how good of a player Crawford is. We did some things right, but they were patient and got pitches to hit and hit them."

Devil Rays reliever Gary Glover (5-3) got the win. He allowed one hit over two innings of work. Al Reyes worked a 1-2-3 ninth, completing a stellar contest for the Tampa Bay bullpen. Four relievers combined to allow just two hits and one walk over six innings.

"It was nice to see that whole thing unfold," said Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon of the bullpen's effort. "They all went in there and did a great job...It's just one game but it's nice to see. It really shows how you'd like to do it. When we've got the bullpen going it makes all the difference in the world. We had a hard time finishing off a game like this in the past."

Tampa Bay starting pitcher Jason Hammel left the game in the fourth inning with a right shoulder strain. After falling behind Troy Glaus 2-1 to start the inning, Maddon and the training staff went out to evaluate the right- hander, who immediately left the game and was replaced by Juan Salas.

Hammel allowed two runs on three hits, walking two and striking out one, in his three-plus innings of work.

He allowed an RBI single to Rios in the first inning and a run-scoring double to Stairs in the second. However, he set down the final six batters he faced before leaving the game with the Devil Rays trailing 2-1.

In the third inning, Gomes homered for the second time in the series to cut the deficit to one run.

"The road has hurt us this year," said Toronto manager John Gibbons. "We definitely do much better at home."
