Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Travis Metcalf went 4-for-4 with a triple, a run, and an RBI double that put the Rangers on top in the eighth, and Texas held on to edge the Seattle Mariners, 4-3, to sweep a doubleheader.
Texas won the opener on Tuesday, 2-1.
Kameron Loe was strong on the mound for the Rangers, scattering seven hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings with five strikeouts and two walks. Michael Young was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run for the Rangers, who have won four of five, including the first three of this four-game set. C.J. Wilson (2-1) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Eric Gagne, the day after almost relinquishing a four-run lead in Texas' 8-7 win in the series opener, picked up his second save of the day, his 16th on the season.
Jarrod Washburn let up eight hits and three runs in 5 2/3 innings, walking three with one strikeout. Chris Reitsma (0-2) gave up two hits and a run in one inning of work for the Mariners, who have dropped five straight. Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-4 for Seattle.
Gerald Laird singled to right to get things started in the eighth for Texas, and moved up on Ramon Vazquez's sacrifice bunt. Metcalf then came through with a double to left, plating Laird with the go-ahead run.
Metcalf led off the third with a triple to left, and came home when Young roped a one-out double to right.
The Mariners took a 3-1 lead with a some clutch two-out hitting in the fifth. With runners on first and second and one out, Loe managed to strike out the always dangerous Suzuki, but followed that up by allowing a single to right by Jose Vidro to score one run, and then a Raul Ibanez double to center that plated two more.
The Rangers answered with two in the home half of the inning. With runners at first and second and one out, Mark Teixeira singled to right, scoring one run, and a Washburn wild pitch brought Young home, knotting the game at 3-3.
