(Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks will send ace Brandon Webb to the hill this evening in the second installment of a three-game series versus the Colorado Rockies at Chase Field.
Webb is shooting for a major league-leading 23rd win of the season and has won three straight starts to improve to 22-7 with a 3.24 earned run average in 33 trips to the hill. Webb, who is making a case for another NL Cy Young Award, beat St. Louis the last time out on Monday, allowing two runs in seven innings of a 4-2 victory.
The right-hander, who is 11-2 in 15 home starts in 2008, has posted a 3-0 mark and a 2.42 ERA in three starts against Colorado this season. Webb is 11-7 through 24 lifetime meetings with the NL West-rival Rockies.
Arizona ended a three-game slide with Friday's 6-4 win over the Rockies in the series opener as Chad Tracy's pinch-hit, two-run double in the eighth inning lifted the D'Backs to victory. Justin Upton ended with a triple, home run and three runs batted in while Stephen Drew went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a winning effort.
Starter Dan Haren allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk in seven innings in the no-decision. Juan Cruz registered the win after throwing a scoreless eighth inning for the Diamondbacks, who were eliminated from playoff contention on Thursday.
Colorado entered this series fresh off a three-game sweep of San Francisco. Jason Grilli took the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Starting pitcher Jason Hirsh gave up three runs on five hits in 4 1/3 frames.
Ryan Spilborghs tallied three hits and Garrett Atkins went 2-for-4 with an RBI in defeat.
Glendon Rusch will handle pitching duties for Colorado tonight and he is 5-5 with a 5.08 earned run average in 22 games (eight starts) this season. He is making his first start for Colorado since losing to Arizona on August 14.
In his most recent appearance on September 21 versus the D'Backs, Rusch tossed two scoreless innings of relief in a 13-4 loss. In 19 career games, seven of which have been starts, against Arizona, the lefty is 5-3 with a 4.36 ERA.
Arizona is 13-3 versus the Rockies this season, with a 6-1 mark at Chase Field.
