Detroit Tigers (70-80) at Texas Rangers (75-77), 8:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Six-time double-digit winner Freddy Garcia makes his first major league start of 2008 tonight when the Detroit Tigers visit Rangers Park for the third and final game of their series with the Texas Rangers.

A 32-year-old Venezuelan, Garcia won 17 games as recently as 2006 with the Chicago White Sox, before being limited to just 11 starts with the Philadelphia Phillies last season.

He had shoulder surgery and had not pitched competitively in 2008 until signing a minor-league deal with the Tigers last month and logging five scoreless innings over two starts with Class-A Lakeland and Triple-A Toledo.

Garcia is 5-5 in 18 career starts against Texas with a 4.60 earned run average.

For the Rangers, right-hander Dustin Nippert makes his fifth straight start while looking for his third straight win.

Nippert made his initial 14 appearances of the season out of the bullpen, going 1-2 with a 7.03 ERA in 39 2/3 innings.

He's 2-2 in four subsequent starts, dropping decisions to Tampa Bay and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim before rebounding for defeats of Seattle and Oakland.

In the two wins, Nippert has allowed 11 hits and a single earned run in 12 innings, walking four batters and striking out 11.

He has never faced the Tigers.

On Tuesday, Chris Davis hit the game-winning single in the ninth to finish off a Rangers' 5-4 comeback victory.

Marlon Byrd hit a game-tying two-run triple in the ninth, and Josh Hamilton went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Rangers, who have won four of six.

Kevin Millwood allowed four runs on five hits and two walks in seven innings, with six strikeouts. Jamey Wright (7-6) pitched a scoreless ninth to notch the win.

Zach Miner didn't factor into the decision, but gave up just two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three. Fernando Rodney (0-6) got the loss after blowing the save, giving up three runs and three hits in the ninth without recording an out.

Brandon Inge hit an RBI single and also scored a run while Miguel Cabrera added an RBI, as the Tigers saw their losing streak extended to six.

Detroit has won five of eight against the Rangers this season.
