Seattle Mariners (57-92) at Kansas City Royals (66-84), 8:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Kansas City Royals try for a fifth consecutive victory and a second straight win over the Seattle Mariners when these two division cellar-dwellers resume a four-game set tonight at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals have been getting good pitching during their current win streak, the team's longest since a four-game run from July 27-30. That was the case as well during Monday's series opener, when Kyle Davies and Joakim Soria combined for a shutout in Kansas City's 3-0 decision over the Mariners.

Davies (7-7) was outstanding over his eight innings of work, limiting Seattle to four hits and striking out eight batters without issuing a walk. Soria finished things up with a perfect ninth to notch his 38th save of the season.

Mark Teahen paced Kansas City offensively by going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while David DeJesus also knocked in a run with a single.

Seattle starter Carlos Silva (4-15) allowed two runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings to extend a personal winless streak. The right-hander has not recorded a victory since June 28.

The loss was the Mariners' fifth in a row, with the club having began its 11- game road trip with four straight defeats to the AL West champion Angels.

Seattle turns to promising youngster Brandon Morrow tonight in hopes of getting back on track. The former first-round pick has pitched well in two starts since joining the Mariners' rotation earlier this month, although he was a tough-luck loser his last time out.

Against the Angels last Thursday, Morrow surrendered just two runs over five innings in his team's 7-4 loss. The right-hander did walk four batters, however, and threw just 51 of 90 pitches for strikes.

Morrow was much sharper in his previous mound trip, when he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in a September 6 start at Yankee Stadium and limited New York to one run over 7 2/3 frames to pick up a win. He also struck out a career-high eight Yankees on the afternoon.

The 24-year-old spent most of this season in the Seattle bullpen, including a stint as the team's closer, before being sent to the minors in early August to convert to a starting role. Morrow is 1-2 with a 5.06 ERA in five lifetime relief appearances against Kansas City.

Journeyman Brandon Duckworth gets the call for the Royals tonight and will be making his fifth start since being called up from Triple-A Omaha in late August. The right-hander won his first two outings following the promotion, but has a loss and a no-decision over his most recent two starts.

Duckworth last pitched Thursday in Minnesota and allowed two runs in a five- inning no-decision against the Twins.

The 32-year-old is 0-1 with a 4.35 earned run average in three career games (2 starts) against Seattle. In the lone relief stint, he delivered three shutout innings to record a save against the Mariners on April 28, 2007.

Kansas City has won four of its six matchups with the Mariners this season, including three of the four tests played at Kauffman Stadium.
