Chicago White Sox (83-66) at New York Yankees (80-70), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Gavin Floyd goes for win No. 16 this evening when the Chicago White Sox continue their four-game series with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

Floyd has been the White Sox' most consistent starter all season, going 15-7 with a 3.77 earned run average. Floyd, though, was tagged with the loss on Thursday against Toronto, which reached him for four runs and seven hits in 7 1/3 frames of his team's 6-4 loss.

The 25-year-old righty has faced the Yankees twice (one start) without recording a decision, but has allowed 10 runs in nine innings of those outings.

New York will counter with lefty Andy Pettitte, who is 13-13 with a 4.52 ERA. Pettitte lost his fourth straight start on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, as he gave up four runs (three earned) and nine hits in 4 2/3 frames.

Pettitte is 11-8 lifetime against the Sox with a 4.41 ERA in 21 games.

The Yankees drew first blood in this series on Monday, as Mariano Rivera retired the side in order in the ninth inning to record his 479th career save and secure Phil Coke's first major league win, helping New York to a 4-2 win.

With the save, Rivera passed Lee Smith for second place on the all-time major league list and now trails only Trevor Hoffman (552).

Coke (1-0) earned the win with a perfect seventh inning in relief of starter Alfredo Aceves, who lasted six innings and was tagged for two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk in the no-decision.

Xavier Nady had a two-run homer and scored twice for the Yankees, who have won three straight games. Johnny Damon and Wilson Betemit each drove in a run in the win. Jason Giambi went 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Dewayne Wise hit a two-run homer to account for all the offense for Chicago, which has dropped five of its last eight games. Orlando Cabrera went 2-for-3 and scored a run in defeat.

Mark Buehrle lasted six frames and yielded two runs on six hits with six punchouts. Ehren Wassermann (1-2) absorbed the loss after getting charged with a run while recording one out in the seventh.

Despite the loss, Chicago still holds a 1 1/2-game lead over Minnesota for the top spot in the AL Central, as the Twins fell to the Indians, 3-1, on Monday.

Elsewhere on the milestone front, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter finished 0- for-4 and remained tied with Lou Gehrig for the most hits (1,269) at Yankee Stadium. One more at-bat tonight will give him 8,002 for his career, also moving him past Gehrig into second place in team history.

Alex Rodriguez also needs one more home run for 35 in his 11th consecutive season, making him and Babe Ruth the only players in history to have 35 homers and 100 RBI in 11 separate seasons.

New York took two of three from the White Sox earlier in the year in the Windy City. The Yankees have also won six of their last seven at home in this series.
