(Sports Network) - Right-handed veteran Brian Moehler can add to his fifth career double-digit victory season when the Houston Astros host the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight in the third test of a four-game set at Minute Maid Park.
Moehler, a 36-year-old native of North Carolina, was a 10-game winner in four straight seasons between 1997 and 2000 with the Detroit Tigers, but was stuck in single digits between 2001 and 2007 while toiling for the Tigers, Cincinnati, Houston and Florida.
He reached win No. 10 this season with an 8-5 victory over St. Louis on August 30, in which he allowed seven hits and three runs in six innings.
Loss No. 6 followed in his next start, however, when he allowed six hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings at Colorado.
Lifetime against Pittsburgh, Moehler is 4-4 in 12 games - nine starts - with a 5.40 earned run average.
For the Pirates, lefty Tom Gorzelanny tries to snap a five-start skid.
Gorzelanny last won on June 24 against the New York Yankees, when he scattered six hits and three runs over six innings of a 12-5 triumph.
He's 0-3 with a pair of no-decisions since, however, allowing 37 hits and 21 earned runs in 29 innings.
Gorzelanny is 1-4 in five career starts against the Astros with a 4.30 ERA in 29 1/3 innings.
On Tuesday, Lance Berkman homered, scored three runs and drove in four more during a 3-for-4 night at the plate, as the Astros continued their torrid post-All Star break stretch with a 9-3 win.
Darin Erstad and Miguel Tejada each had three hits and scored twice for the Astros, who have won 12 of their last 13 games and are an MLB-best 34-16 after the Mid-Summer Classic.
Randy Wolf (10-11) moved to 4-1 in nine starts in a Houston uniform, allowing three runs on four hits through seven frames as the Astros are just four games back of the NL wild card-leading Milwaukee Brewers.
Steve Pearce hit his first career home run, while Ross Ohlendorf (0-1) was touched for six runs on nine hits in his second start with the Pirates, who have dropped four straight.
The Pirates are 3-5 on their current 10-game road trip.
