(Sports Network) - Lefty Nate Robertson looks to win for the first time since early August tonight when the Detroit Tigers host the Oakland Athletics in the middle test of a three-game series at Comerica Park.
A 31-year-old Kansas native, Robertson is winless in five outings since August 10, when he beat the Athletics, 6-1, for his seventh win of the season.
In that triumph, which evened his career record against Oakland to 4-4 in nine starts, Robertson allowed five hits and a run in 7 2/3 innings while walking one and striking out five.
He's 0-2 in five games since, allowing 24 hits and 17 earned runs in 14 innings.
Robertson gets the call this time in place of veteran southpaw Kenny Rogers, who's having a start skipped due to a sore hip.
For Oakland, first-year American Leaguer Dana Eveland can add to an already personal-best win total.
The 24-year-old Washington native had made just 41 appearances - six starts - with Milwaukee and Arizona heading into 2008, going 2-4 over 64 1/3 innings.
He's 8-8 already this season, including a 5-1 victory at Seattle on August 23 in which he allowed five hits and a run over seven innings.
His lone career meeting with the Tigers came June 3 and resulted in a no- decision after he allowed three hits and three runs over 4 1/3 innings of Oakland's 5-4 triumph.
On Monday, Gary Sheffield hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, which was the 250,000th home run in MLB history, as the Tigers outlasted Oakland, 14-8.
Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI while Magglio Ordonez finished 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and four runs scored for the Tigers, who have won three straight.
Zach Miner started on the mound and was banged up for eight runs on 11 hits in just 4 1/3 innings of work. Casey Fossum (3-1) got the win for throwing 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Rajai Davis and Jack Hannahan each drove in a pair of runs while Kurt Suzuki went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Athletics, who have dropped five of seven.
Gio Gonzalez (1-4) was tagged for nine runs -- eight earned -- on five hits with a pair of walks, and two hit batters in just 1 2/3 innings of work, en route to the loss.
The Athletics swept a three-game set from the Tigers in Oakland back in June, but Detroit won two of three matchups between the teams at Comerica Park from August 8-10.
