LA Angels of Anaheim (84-54) at Detroit Tigers (67-72), 1:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The LA Angels of Anaheim will wrap up a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers this afternoon at Comerica Park.

The Angels still have a magic number of seven to clinch their second straight American League West title and currently sit 16 1/2 games ahead of the Texas Rangers in the division standings. They lost for the second time in three tries after Wednesday's 9-6 defeat in the second test of this set. Mark Teixeira ended with three hits, including a home run, for Anaheim and finished with three RBI.

Brandon Wood was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Angels, who didn't get much from Jon Garland. The Anaheim starter gave up five runs on seven hits and three walks in six innings of a no-decision. Jose Arredondo suffered the loss for permitting two runs in the seventh inning.

Anaheim has a great chance for a series win with Ervin Santana on the mound Thursday. Santana is 3-0 over his past six starts and beat Texas his last time out on Friday. He limited the Rangers to a run on five hits over eight solid innings of a 3-1 victory.

Santana, who is 9-2 in 15 away starts this year, improved to 14-5 with a 3.31 earned run average in 27 season starts. He will face Detroit for the third time in 2008 and is 2-0 against the Tigers, including a complete-game effort on May 27, this year. He allowed two runs and three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks that day.

In six lifetime starts against the Tigers, Santana is 4-2.

Detroit won for just the third time in 10 tries last night, as Curtis Granderson tripled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and the Tigers went on to post a 9-6 win over the Angels in the second test of this three- game set.

Granderson finished with three hits and three runs scored, while Placido Polanco had three hits and knocked in three runs for the Tigers, who had dropped two in a row and three of four entering the contest.

Detroit starter Zach Miner surrendered five runs on eight hits without walking a batter over six frames in a no-decision. Kyle Farnsworth recorded the win with 1 2/3 scoreless frames of relief.

Veteran Kenny Rogers will try to break out of his funk when he toes the rubber for Detroit today. Rogers has lost two straight starts and is 1-6 over his seven most recent trips to the mound. He last pitched on Saturday versus Kansas City, allowing six runs and eight hits in six innings of his team's 13-3 loss.

Rogers, a lefty, is 3-5 in 12 home starts this season. He is also 17-15 with a 3.98 earned run average in 62 career games (45 starts) against the Halos. Rogers hurled seven shutout innings in a no-decision at Angel Stadium on May 26 of this season, although Anaheim won the game, 1-0.

Los Angeles has won five of its eight matchups with the Tigers in 2008 and has already locked up its eighth straight season series win over Detroit.
