Chicago White Sox (76-59) at Boston Red Sox (79-56), 1:35 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Chicago White Sox starter Gavin Floyd will try to run his unbeaten streak to eight games when he takes on the Boston Red Sox today in the finale of a three-game series at Fenway Park.

Floyd has won back-to-back starts and is 4-0 over the previous seven trips to the mound. He last toed the rubber on August 26 at Baltimore and held the Orioles to a pair of runs and four hits in eight innings of an 8-3 victory. Floyd improved to 14-6 with a 3.70 ERA this season for the White Sox, who are 6-1 during his recent unbeaten run.

The right-hander, whose last loss came on July 19 versus Kansas City, faced the Red Sox on August 10 this season at U.S. Cellular Field. In the 6-5 win over Boston, Floyd came out victorious despite giving up five runs in 5 1/3 innings of work. He is now 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA in two career games (one start) against Boston.

Chicago has dropped three in a row and five of its last eight games, but still owns a half-game lead over Minnesota in the American League Central division. The White Sox, who suffered an 8-2 loss to Boston on Saturday, remained atop the standings after the Twins lost to Oakland.

A.J. Pierzynski and Alexei Ramirez each had an RBI for the White Sox, who got a poor effort from starting pitcher Mark Buehrle. Buehrle took the loss after yielding 11 hits and seven runs over 4 2/3 innings of work.

The White Sox have been outscored 27-5 during their three-game losing streak and fell to 2-3 on a nine-game road trip. They are also 30-37 away from the Windy City in 2008.

Boston extended its lead in the AL Wild Card standings to 3 1/2 games over the Twins after its victory last night. Mark Kotsay finished 3-for-5 and drove in three runs, as the Red Sox posted their second straight win and fifth in six tries. Jason Bay and Jed Lowrie each knocked in two runs, while Dustin Pedroia continued to swing a hot bat by going 4-for-4 with two runs scored.

Pedroia leads the AL with a .327 batting average and is hitting .423 with five home runs, 15 RBI and 25 runs scored over his previous 16 games.

Boston starter Michael Bowden won his major-league debut, going five innings and allowing two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk. The solid effort on the mound kept the Red Sox 4 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay in the American League East division.

The Red Sox, who are 2-0 on a six-game homestand, will hand the ball to Tim Wakefield on Sunday, and he has won two straight starts to push his unbeaten stretch to three games. Wakefield won his previous outing on August 26 in a 7-3 victory at Yankee Stadium, and gave up three runs and eight hits in five innings for the win over rival New York.

Wakefield, who is 8-8 with a 3.73 ERA this season, will face the White Sox for the first time this season. The right-handed knuckleball specialist is 7-10 with a 5.14 earned run average in 27 career games (18 starts) against Chicago.

Boston leads the season series with Chicago by a 4-2 count and is 11-2 in the past 13 encounters with the White Sox.
