Texas Rangers (63-68) at Kansas City Royals (56-74), 8:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Kansas City right-hander Gil Meche can creep closer to a personal best for wins and extend a recent unbeaten streak when the Royals host the Texas Rangers in the first test of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium.

Meche, who was drafted by Seattle in 1996 and pitched with the Mariners through 2006, signed a lucrative free-agent contract with the Royals prior to last season and went 9-13 in 34 starts over 216 innings of work.

He won a career-high 15 games with the Mariners in 2003 and reached double- digits on two other occasions, winning 10 times in 2005 and 11 in 2006.

He earned win No. 10 this season on August 4 against the Boston Red Sox, allowing four hits and two runs in six innings of a 4-3 triumph in Kansas City.

The 29-year-old Louisiana native has not lost in his last nine starts, winning four times in that span with the Royals going 8-1 in those appearances.

He's 4-8 in 15 career appearances against the Rangers with a 6.25 earned run average in 72 innings.

For Texas, right-hander Scott Feldman tries to end a five-start winless skid.

The 25-year-old native of Hawaii was 4-3 after a 6-1 defeat of the Chicago White Sox in July 21, but has since gone 0-2 with three no-decisions in five starts while allowing 35 hits and 19 earned runs in 27 innings.

Feldman entered this season with 73 straight relief appearances in the majors and had posted a 1-5 record through 89 2/3 innings.

He's started 20 times in 22 outings in 2008, reaching a career-high 120 2/3 innings after going six against Detroit in his most recent outing on Aug. 18.

On Sunday in Texas, Franklin Gutierrez drove in the game-winning run in the ninth as the Cleveland Indians completed a three-game sweep of the Rangers with a 4-3 win.

Milton Bradley, Gerald Laird and Ramon Vazquez each drove in a run for the Rangers, who have dropped three straight and six of seven. Vicente Padilla gave up three runs on five hits with a walk and eight strikeouts in five innings of work.

In Kansas City, Jose Guillen homered and Mark Teahen drove in three runs, as the Royals topped the Detroit Tigers, 7-3, to avoid a three-game sweep and halt a seven-game losing streak.

Esteban German and Miguel Olivo also knocked in a run for Kansas City, while Alberto Callaspo finished 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Brandon Duckworth (1-0), who had his contract purchased from Triple-A Omaha before the game, picked up the win after he allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks in five innings of work.

Texas has won four of six from the Royals this season.
