(Sports Network) - Chris Volstad hopes for the same kind of run support that Anibal Sanchez received on Thursday when the Florida Marlins play the second test of their four-game series with the Colorado Rockies tonight at Dolphin Stadium.
Just hours after missing out on landing Manny Ramirez, Jeremy Hermida -- one of the players rumored to be heading out in the potential blockbuster trade -- drove in two runs and scored three times as Florida rolled to a 12-2 win.
Making his first start in the majors since May 2, 2007, Sanchez allowed two runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings to get his first win since April 21 of last year.
Hermida finished with three hits for the Marlins, who have won five of their last seven contests and trail the Philadelphia Phillies by 1 1/2 games for first place in the tight NL East. Dan Uggla finished 2-for-4 and knocked in two runs for Florida, while Jorge Cantu and Hanley Ramirez each belted a solo home run.
Colorado starter Jorge De La Rosa (5-6) lasted only 1 2/3 frames and was victimized for seven runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Kip Wells surrendered four runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief.
Omar Quintanilla and Ian Stewart each knocked in a run for the Rockies, who have dropped three of their last four games.
Volstad, who picked up his first major league win with a two-inning relief stint back on July 6, received a no-decision on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs, when he allowed a pair of runs and six hits in six innings. He is 2-1 with a 2.38 ERA on the year.
Colorado will counter with righty Ubaldo Jimenez, who is 7-9 with a 3.80 ERA. Jimenez won his third straight start and improved to 5-1 over his last six outings Sunday against Cincinnati, as he scattered five hits over six scoreless innings.
Jimenez lost to the Marlins in his only other appearance against them last September.
Colorado has won three of five from the Marlins this year after the two teams split the season series each of the previous three campaigns.
