(Sports Network) - Rookie right-hander Chris Volstad makes his second big- league start in the midst of a tight divisional race tonight, when his Florida Marlins host the Atlanta Braves in the first of three games at Dolphin Stadium in Miami.
The Marlins enter the series third in the jumbled National League East Division, trailing the co-leading New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies by a half-game apiece.
Florida took two of three from the Phillies over the weekend, while the Mets split a four-game series at Cincinnati.
Volstad, the 16th overall pick in the 2005 draft, made his major-league debut with two innings of scoreless relief in a win against Colorado on July 6, then came within an out of a complete game while defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-1, just five days later.
In the two outings, he's combined to allow seven hits and a run in 10 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out six.
A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Volstad, who stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 190 pounds, won't turn 22 years old until September.
For Atlanta, righty Jorge Campillo meets the Marlins for the second time this season and fourth of his career.
The 29-year-old Tijuana native lasted four innings in a June 3 start in Atlanta, allowing six hits and four runs en route to a no-decision in what wound up as a 5-4 Braves win.
His previous two matchups with the Braves were in relief.
Campillo has dropped four of six decisions since that June 3 game, but he won his final start before the all-star break, allowing five hits and two runs in six innings of a 12-3 victory at San Diego.
On Sunday in Atlanta, Willie Harris homered and drove in five runs, as the Washington Nationals beat the Braves, 15-6, in the finale of a three-game set.
Jo-Jo Reyes (3-9) was hammered for six runs on seven hits and four walks and a strikeout in just 2 1/3 innings of work. Reyes has won just once in 11 starts, dropping eight decisions overall and five in a row.
Mark Teixeira smacked two home runs in a three-hit effort with three RBI, and Martin Prado added a two-run shot for Atlanta, which dropped the final two contests to the Nationals following a three-game win streak.
In Miami, Jorge Cantu drove in the game-winning run in the 11th inning to propel the Marlins to a 3-2 comeback win in 11 innings over the Philadelphia Phillies in the rubber match of their three-game series.
Alfredo Amezaga led off the bottom of the 11th with a single, and following a Hanley Ramirez walk, Jeremy Hermida attempted a sacrifice bunt which was botched by pitcher Clay Condrey, loading the bases with nobody out. Cantu promptly came up and drove a ball off the left field wall for the game-winning single.
Josh Johnson was making his second start since coming back from Tommy John surgery, and threw 6 2/3 solid innings -- his longest outing since August 2006 -- giving up two runs and seven hits while striking out four and walking three.
Hermida and Cody Ross each added a solo home run for the Marlins, who have won six of eight. Doug Waechter (2-2) got the win after throwing a scoreless 11th inning.
Atlanta has won five of its nine meetings with the Marlins this season.
