Washington Nationals (33-50) at Florida Marlins (42-39), 7:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Washington Nationals right-hander Tim Redding hopes to reverse the result of his last meeting with the Florida Marlins when his team heads to Miami's Dolphin Stadium tonight for the first of a three-game series.

Redding was beaten, 7-3, the last time he faced Florida, back in Washington on May 9. He allowed five earned runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The right-hander is 4-2 in eight career starts against the Marlins, with a 3.40 earned run average in 42 1/3 innings.

The 30-year-old Rochester, NY native is unbeaten in nine starts since the aforementioned loss, winning twice from May 14-19 and then stringing together seven consecutive no-decisions. Washington is 9-0 in those nine Redding starts.

Rookie right-hander Ryan Tucker makes his fifth major-league start for the Marlins this evening.

Tucker debuted on June 8 at Cincinnati with a 9-2 defeat of the Reds, but has since dropped two of three starts - both to the cross-state rival Tampa Bay Rays.

Most recently, the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder allowed eight hits and seven runs over four innings of a 15-3 loss on Wednesday.

Overall, Tucker has surrendered 24 hits and 15 runs in 20 innings since his callup, while walking 12 batters and striking out 15.

Washington comes in off Sunday's exciting 3-2, extra-inning victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Ronnie Belliard belted a two-run game-winning homer with two outs in the bottom of the 12th during the rubber match of the Beltway Series.

After Orioles closer George Sherrill (2-3) struck out Pete Orr and got Paul Lo Duca to ground out, Dmitri Young drew a pinch-hit walk in the 12th to extend the game. Belliard followed with a shot over the left-field wall to give Washington a dramatic victory.

Jason Bergmann gave up a single run in seven innings for Washington, which has won three of its last four. Joel Hanrahan (5-2) got the win after getting the final out of the top of the 12th.

Aaron Boone drove in the other run for Washington.

Florida posted a comeback win of its own on Sunday. Hanley Ramirez hit the game-tying solo home run in the ninth inning, and Jorge Cantu singled in Jeremy Hermida with the game-winner to give the Marlins a 4-3 home victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Arizona took a 3-2 lead into the ninth with closer Brandon Lyon on the mound. Lyon struck out pinch-hitter Wes Helms for the first out, but Ramirez ripped a hanging breaking ball over the fence in left -- his 18th homer of the season -- to knot the game at 3-3.

Hermida followed by slicing a ball to the opposite field, which fell on the line in left for a double. A wild pitch by Lyon allowed Hermida to advance to third, and Cantu grounded through the drawn-in infield to plate Hermida for the win.

Ramirez went 2-for-4 for the Marlins, who took two of three from the Diamondbacks despite playing the finale without star second baseman Dan Uggla, who sat with an ankle injury. He is expected to sit out tonight's contest as well.

Marlins starter Scott Olsen gave up five hits and three runs over seven frames for a no-decision. Joe Nelson (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth and picked up the win.

Florida has dominated the 2008 season series with the Nats, having won eight of the nine matchups. The Marlins are also 10-1 in their last 11 games against Washington.
