(Sports Network) - The New York Yankees try to earn a split in their season series with the Mets this afternoon when the Big Apple rivals conclude their set at Shea Stadium.

The Yankees, who lost the first three games of the Subway Series at Yankee Stadium, have rebounded with back-to-back wins in Flushing. On Saturday, Andy Pettitte was effective on the mound and Robinson Cano had two hits and drove in a run to lead the Yankees to a 3-2 victory in a game that featured one hour and 19 minutes in delays during two rain stoppages.

Pettitte (9-5) threw six innings and gave up just two runs on five hits while fanning four batters and walking three en route to his fourth straight win. The lefty also had a pick-off in the fifth inning, giving him eight on the year, which is a career-high and ties him with Oakland's Greg Smith for the major league lead. Mariano Rivera worked a perfect ninth for his 22nd save of the year.

Jorge Posada and Jason Giambi both added an RBI for the Yankees, who have won four of their last six.

Johan Santana (7-7) took the loss as he was touched for three runs on four hits in six innings. The two-time Cy Young Award winner also struck out eight batters and walked four.

David Wright and Ramon Castro each had a solo home run for the Mets, who have faltered in four of their last six contests.

Getting the call for the Yankees today will be right-hander Darrell Rasner, who has lost five of his last six starts. Rasner absorbed the loss on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, as he yielded seven runs and 10 hits in five innings, dropping him to 4-5 on the season, while raising his ERA to 4.50.

Rasner has some bad memories of the Subway Series. Last year, on May 19, he gave up two runs and two hits without recording an out before he took a one- hopper off the bat of Endy Chavez off his right index finger, causing a fracture and ending his season.

The Mets will counter with inconsistent left-hander Oliver Perez, who is 5-5 with a 5.29 ERA. Perez was tagged with the loss on Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners, as he allowed six runs (five earned) and seven hits in five innings.

Perez defeated the Yankees earlier in the year and is 4-1 lifetime against them with a 2.88 ERA in five starts. ' The teams have split the six-game season series in each of the last three seasons.
