New York Yankees (43-37) at New York Mets (39-40), 3:55 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Andy Pettitte tries to win his fourth straight start this afternoon when the New York Yankees continue their four-game series with the Mets at Shea Stadium.

Pettitte improved to 5-0 over his last seven starts on Sunday against Cincinnati, as he scattered four hits over six scoreless innings to run his record to 8-5, while lowering his earned run average to 4.04.

Over his last three starts Pettitte has surrendered just one run in 21 innings. He also enters today's tilt with a 19-inning scoreless streak - his longest since a 23-frame run in 1997.

Pettitte lost to the Mets earlier in the year and is 7-4 lifetime against them with a 3.48 ERA.

The Mets will counter with two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana, who is 7-6 with a 2.93 ERA. Santana lost his second straight start and third consecutive decision on Monday against Seattle, as he allowed five runs (one earned) and seven hits in seven innings.

Santana defeated Pettitte and the Yankees back on May 17, upping his career mark against them to 4-0 to go along with a 2.98 ERA.

These teams split a unique day-night split-stadium doubleheader on Friday, as Carlos Delgado drove in a team record nine runs, leading the Mets to a 15-6 win in the first game at Yankee Stadium, while Sidney Ponson (5-1) answered back for the Yankees in the nightcap, tossing six scoreless innings in a 9-0 win at Shea.

Bobby Abreu finished 4-for-4 with a walk and three RBI for the Yanks in the second game, while. Derek Jeter doubled to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.

Jeter has also reached base in 41 straight games against NL foes, and has a 19-game hitting streak against the Mets dating to 2005.

Jose Reyes and David Wright each had two hits for the Mets, who have dropped three of their last five contests.

Pedro Martinez (2-2) took the loss in the second game, as he was rocked for six runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. Martinez also gave up a season-high in walks with five, and tied a season-high with the six runs allowed.

The Mets have won three of their four meetings with the Yankees this season. The teams, though, have split the six-game season series in each of the last three seasons.
