(Sports Network) - After experiencing their first home loss in more than a month on Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs try to set a new streak in this evening's clash with the Baltimore Orioles from Wrigley Field.

The surprising Orioles put an end to Chicago's 14-game run of victories at Wrigley in last night's opener of this three-game interleague series. Nick Markakis and Luke Scott each collected two hits and a pair of RBI, while Jeremy Guthrie put forth a solid outing on the mound in Baltimore's 7-5 triumph.

Brian Roberts, rumored to be headed to the Cubs during the offseason, went 3- for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to help the Orioles halt a two-game slide and hand Chicago its first home defeat since May 17.

Guthrie (4-7) surrendered four runs on seven hits over six-plus innings, with most of the damage coming on Jim Edmonds' three-run homer in the seventh. George Sherrill got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam by striking out three straight Chicago hitters in the ninth to earn his 26th save.

Kosuke Fukudome was 2-for-5 with a solo home run for the Cubs, while Aramis Ramirez also ended with two hits and an RBI in the loss.

Sean Marshall (0-1), recalled from Triple-A Iowa prior to the game to take the rotation spot of the injured Carlos Zambrano, lasted only 4 2/3 innings for Chicago. The left-hander recorded seven strikeouts but allowed four runs on seven hits.

The Cubs expect a better showing tonight from Ted Lilly. The veteran southpaw has been coming through lately, having won six of his last seven decisions after a 1-4 start to the season.

Lilly has been particularly solid in June, with the 32-year-old posting a 2-1 record and a 2.70 earned run average through four starts this month.

In his most recent outing, Lilly surrendered three runs and struck out eight in a 6 2/3-inning no-decision against the White Sox on Friday. Five days earlier, he yielded just one hit over six shutout frames to defeat Toronto on June 15.

The former American League hurler owns a 6-2 record and a 3.95 ERA in 14 career appearances (12 starts) against the Orioles.

Baltimore will send out a lefty of its own in Brian Burres, who brings a two- start win streak into tonight's tilt. The 27-year-old didn't pitch especially well in either of those games, however.

Burres allowed three runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 decent innings in last Thursday's 7-5 win over Houston, which followed up a June 13 victory over Pittsburgh in which he was touched for six runs and eight hits through six frames.

Prior to that start against the Pirates, Burres hadn't pitched beyond 4 1/3 innings in any of his three previous mound trips.

This will be Burres' first career matchup with Chicago. He is 2-3 with a 3.86 ERA in seven road starts in 2008.

In the only previous series between these teams, the Cubs took two of three games from the O's at Camden Yards from June 10-12, 2003.
