(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers try to stretch their home winning streak to seven games this evening, when they welcome the St. Louis Cardinals to town for the start of a three-game interleague series at Comerica Park.

Of course, St. Louis and Detroit met in the 2006 World Series, which was won in five games by the Cardinals. The Tigers have since exacted a measure of revenge with a three-game sweep of the Cards in Detroit last season, and have taken the last six regular-season contests between the clubs.

The Tigers finished a six-game road trip by taking two of three from the San Diego Padres over the weekend, culminating with a 5-3 win Sunday at Petco Park. Magglio Ordonez had a double and a homer and drove in three runs in the win, helping Detroit to its fourth victory in five tries and 10th in its last 12.

Justin Verlander (4-9) pitched 5 1/3 solid innings to pick up his second win in his past three starts and his first road victory of the season. The right- hander gave up two runs on five hits and five walks, but struck out a season- high 10 batters.

Hoping to extend the Tigers' home winning streak tonight will be veteran left- hander Kenny Rogers, who has been sensational over his last five starts. Rogers picked up the win on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants, surrendering a run and five hits in five innings to run his record to 5-4, and lower his earned run average to 4.36.

Over his last five starts, Rogers has allowed just four runs in a span of 36 innings.

Rogers has not received a decision in either of his two regular-season starts against the Cardinals, but has pitched to a lofty 9.72 ERA in those outings.

The 43-year-old lefty, though, was the only Detroit pitcher to get a win over the Cardinals in the 2006 Fall Classic, as he tossed eight scoreless frames in Game 2 of that series.

St. Louis will counter with righty Braden Looper, who is 8-5 with a 4.10 ERA. Looper received a no-decision on Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals, as he allowed a run and five hits in seven innings of his team's 3-2 loss.

Looper has faced the Tigers seven times (1 start) and is 2-1 with a 7.45 ERA against them.

St. Louis, meanwhile, enters this series on the heels of taking two of three from the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Cards, though, were denied the sweep on Sunday with a 5-3 loss in 13 innings.

Aaron Miles was 5-of-6 for the Cardinals, who have dropped four of their last six games. Adam Kennedy, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the ninth, was 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Mike Parisi (0-3) was tagged with the loss after serving up a game-winning home run to Kevin Youkilis in the 13th.
